Re: installing solar power in a westy

I've heard of a few flexi panels going faulty. There may be an equal number of rigid ones gone faulty, but maybe people don't feel the need to talk about that? I've gone rigid for two reasons. Easily removed if a fault does develop, and I don't like the idea of bonding things to my roof. Hope you ge...

Re: Andy's Atlantic (Wolfgang)

Some time since the last post so a little update to my thread. Lots of use of the van last year as we traveled Wales, Devon and Cornwall. http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l234/rendersonique/2016-09-09%2012.29.17_zps3nzmuewl.jpg St Michaels Mount, Penzance http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l234/rend...

Re: ARB or Fiamna awning?

Fiamma F35 takes my vote. Good strong cartridge and all has worked faultlessly on every trip. However, mine does pop out a little at one end when wound in, but I think this is just down to adjustment (I really need to take a look at that), but nothing a velcro strap wouldn't sort out. As far as Fia...

Re: Solar battery charger

Hi, Ok. So it seems that perhaps that is the best option. Is it best to stick the flexi straight to the fibreglass, or should I attach batons to the roof and then attach a panel to that. The Devon roof has ribs in it so it's not flat like a Westie one. There's such a huge range in price on eBay - w...

Some may say its overkill, but I think where solar is concerned there is no such thing

Re: Solar battery charger

I would say isolate your batteries. Less chance of it being stolen if you remove the isolator key also. Not answered the question about solar charger, but the isolator works for me.

Re: solar panel longevity

I know of a few people that have had flexi panels develop faults. Maybe because they are more vulnerable at the point of wiring or some other reason? I have ridged panels and they have been good for 6 months since they have been connected, but I know that's no great claim. I chose this route because...

Re: JX oil cooler

My engine is tired. Last service i got my van back and the buzzer of doom was sounding on a regular basis. It did this the year before just after the service but only a couple of times. I think it may have been something to do with the fresh oil? Anyways, long story short i fitted the oil cooler (Br...

Re: SORNed, turn the engine over or not

I had flat spotted tyres earlier this year. It was a little strange that I had left the van for longer periods prior to the time they flat spotted with no ill effect. I wasn't convinced that changing the tires would resolve the issue as the garages wording of the fault was "your tires aren't ro...

I have a build thread for my Westfalia camper which may be of interest. http://www.daswolfgang.com/solar-install/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; It's specific to my van as far as cable routing etc but the general stuff is in there. I decided to go for rigid panels for a cou...
