Car stalling up steep hill - Any ideas???

Hi, My van only gets used once every 2 weeks, so I took it out for a drive today. Was driving great along the flat, but at the end of the (20 minute) drive I had to drive up a steep, long hill. It struggled and ended up stalling. :( Do these vans tend to struggle, or could there be something wrong??...

Re: How do I tighten temp sensor

Are you saying there's nothing to tighten?

Once spring clip is off, does it just pull out?

How do I tighten temp sensor

Have ordered a new temp sensor (for gauge) but want to tighten existing one in the meantime - its dripping and I dont want it to fully drain. Have located sensor, but cant see a nut to tighten. It looks completely round / smooth. So, how do I tighten it? Is there a nut there somewhere? Toby (1988 1....

Re: Temp warning light flashing but engine seems ok - Any ideas?

Good thinking! I disconnected the lead in the engine bay and temp gauge fault dissapears, so looks like sender unit or associated wiring is the problem. Is changing the sender unit an easy job? Do I need to drain the water first and then refill, bleed, pressurise etc. I only have basic tools, but I ...

Re: Temp warning light flashing but engine seems ok - Any ideas?

Cant seem to disconnect wire connector. Does it just pull off, or do I need to release any clips? Don't want to pull too hard, just in case there is something else that needs to be released first. Also, now I've started twisting and pulling, water is dripping from sender housing. Is that to be expec...

Re: Temp warning light flashing but engine seems ok - Any ideas?

Got it!!! Thanks.

Before I go ahead and change sender, are there some checks worth doing (resistance between pins etc)?

If I do buy a sender, please could you recommend a supplier.

Re: Temp warning light flashing but engine seems ok - Any ideas?

Hi, Following the advice in previous post, please could somebody send me a picture that clearly identifies the sender unit (1988 petrol). I think I have located it, but not 100% sure and don't want to go round in circles with diagnosis / trouble shooting. Thanks for all your help with this - Conside...

Re: Temp warning light flashing but engine seems ok - Any ideas?

More info on problem - can anyone fathom this out? 1 hour since last drive, so I'd like to think van is cool (although expansion tank warm to touch still). Temp gauge still off scale (to the right) and light above it still flashing. Tried disconnecting relay 43 - Fault remains. Tried disconnecting r...

Temp warning light flashing but engine seems ok - Any ideas?

Hi, I've recently bought a T25 van, so am new to these vehicles and this particular one. Can anyone shed any light on the following problem: Temp warning light comes on and flashes after about 10 mins of driving . I stopped the van and looked at the engine, which was hot but didn't seem too hot (no ...

How to keep vehicle 'alive' whilst SORN

Hi, Just bought a T25 panel van (1988) and won't be using it 'in anger' for approx 6 months. It's SORN on the driveway. What should I do to keep it in good health? I can't take it out on the road, so need top tips with regards to things like: - should handbrake be on or off? - how often should I sta...
