Re: water gone - encouraging words please :(
okay an update, thanks for all your help I got a coolant distributer manifold from VW £34 in total after VAT and me collecting it on my way home. that was £27 cheaper than JK and £16 cheaper than second hand, I think even brickwerks are looking to sell them for £40(ish), make sure you always shop ar...

Re: clutch slave
that is right you did say that but the original poster was wondering if anyone else sold them for their original cost £18-£20.
it doesn't sound like they do, so he will have to pay the £50 or whatever he has been quoted, I am sure brickwerks sold them for £20 when vw still stocked them.

Re: engine replacement
yeah like mine I think they knock their shins into the engine crane on purpose too. I am sure he is not there to rip you off, but you do have to remember that as these things come apart sometimes it is simpler to simply replace the iffy bits whist it is all easy to do on a bench rather than waiting ...

Re: engine replacement
perhaps the tappets simply need adjusting... but if you are sure you want to commit to having a new engine fitted then go ahead. Other issues which may add to the cost in labour / parts is exhaust, drive shaft issues, you may as well change the starter, cranks shaft oil seal, and clutch at the same ...

turn the music up in the cab
if it is CV joints they normally get worse under load and the noise disappears if coasting, also the whole vans rear end shakes when the cv joints are knocking?
I assume you have not fixed something else which has made this sound / sensation now the loudest?

Re: Removing paint to reveal original colour?
If it is your hobby past time, go for the "paint your wagon with a roller" option, when I need to I will (I have printed the instuctions out a couple of times now), but I kinda like all the flowers and like painted on dylan. if you get someone else to paint your van it would have been chea...
