Re: Only Mercedes rims in here!
Since this is the thread for all things Merc wheel related, maybe you guys can help… I have a set of 16x6.5 AMG Mercedes Penta wheels that I’d really like to use on our Syncro Atlantic… I say a set, what I actually have is 3 wheels… and I need to track down a 4th (and ideally 5th! :o ) I bought them...

2.1 WBX options
We have a 2.1 MV in our newly acquired Syncro and whilst it works it is tired, so will need to be addressed. Waterboxers are a complete unknown to me (I’m a diesel geek...), so I am attempting to educate myself on what the optimum combination is. My understanding is that the DJ internals give a bit ...

Re: Charge cooler rads
I’m currently using the Fiat Rad - it’s tight but it works reasonably well. I looked at gettinG a rad made to the spec of the one Lloyd is using. I was quoted well over £400 to have it made up - which whilst I didn’t think was terrible given the work involved, was £400 more than I had to spend at th...

Re: bought 215/65 R15s will they fit?
I run 205/70-15s on a 7” alloy (ARC Alurads) and they work perfectly. Makes sure yo get a wheel with an appropriate offset (et) and you should be fine.

Re: 1.9 AFN TDI silly question
There seem to be several options for the 1.7 engine, but assuming you have a 5 speed box, then yes, the 1st thru 5th ratios look the same. The difference is the final drive ratio, as the 1.7 uses a 5.5 r&p whilst the jx uses a 4.83 ratio. I’ve upped mine further to the 4.57 ring and pinion, but ...

Re: 1.9 AFN TDI silly question
Interesting that you are finding more transverse mount donors available - I struggled to find them. The Audi and Passat donors are fairly common though. To use the standard mounts you will need to use the jx exhaust manifold, which means you will need turbo adapters and custom oil feed pipes. To use...

Re: 1.9 AFN TDI silly question
James, There are two versions of the AFN, as you have already deduced - the logditudinal mounted version as fitted to A4s and Passats and the transverse mount version as fitted to galaxy/sharan/Alhambra and golfs. The Toledo would be transverse mount. Both versions are possible to use, but the block...

Re: Recommend a 2 way compressor fridge please
We use an Engel MT35 and love it... it’s not a cheap bit of kit though, and is a top opening chest type rather than front opening.

Re: AFN DMF..... fitting?
I have just fired the Brickwerks supplied DMF to my AFN conversion with a rebuilt 3H box... I haven’t got it running yet, however, to answer your questions; The "pooh" from the jx does not fit. I used the Brickwerks stainless steel one with is cut from flat sheet. The DMF, clutch and cover...

Re: Air compressor
Not a comment on those two machines, but spraying and particularly shot blasting need large amounts of air. That means you ideally want a high a CFM measure as possible. High CFM compressors are generally rather more expensive...

Re: Using a Mk3 Tdi lump in my van?
Firstly, you need to identify which engine is in your golf - the easiest way is to find the power output. If it is a genuine TDI it will be either 90 (engine codes 1Z or AHU) or 110 bhp (AFN). . The other option in a mk3 golf is that it is an IDI engine, with 74 bhp (AAZ). The AAZ has very similar c...

Whereabouts in the world are you Joe? I have some high top interior panels which I acquired to do another job with but it seems a shame to cut them up when they could be used as intended.
