Re: Dropping Engine using wood + straps

I’ve done a few using this method: Take the rear exhaust box off & maybe the oil separator tower too. Axle stand under gearbox, engine on trolley jack and pull it out. Get a mate to balance the engine on the jack while you pull. The pair of you, lift the engine into a wheel barrow & off you go!

Backfiring is a timing issue, that’s an easy check once engine warmed up with a strobe. Get the fuel filter changed out too, £3 item.

Re: Cracked alternator bracket

Machine shop can fix that. Depends how much they want you to strip the engine down for them. I had one in a similar state, and they fixed it. Take the bracket with you, so they can measure off it.

Have you tried a diluted bleach mix? Good for mould removal & lasts.

^^ Failed too, won't fit over hubs, so I now have 4 of these which are only good for Merc steels I believe, if you want them.

Welcome back to the brick club. Good luck with the crust. I read your ‘interests’, we have a lot in common! :). I frequent Newquay for the fireworks in Nov most years.

Felt a bit like Clint Eastwood in Escape from Alcatraz, but I managed to fuse them together with the blow torch. Worked well. All done. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200816/14f89299cb028fe38ae6ca423d71cf66.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200816/ae144f0a71698692d9881b213c914da6.jpg https:...

Re: Mefro Centre Caps

Bit of glue & I should be able to make this work. Perhaps some strap on the inside too maybe.

Diesel to AGG/ADY mk3 Golf petrol GTI is the most common. Sump tin swap, wiring loom & exhaust required. I guess you could change the bell housing to keep the original gearbox, but wouldn’t suit it from a revs perspective. Diesels are low revving engines aren’t they. Sorry, bit of a ramble. Personal...
