Re: Header Tank Caps

Blau internals are the same as VW, just the outer that's different. Blau were the OEM for VW. One thing I know for sure, my Blau from Brickwerks bought this week does not dribble coolant down the top of the tank, doesn't hold in more pressure than (I think) it needs to and seems to pull a little co...

Re: Dalek cap

Should quack when you blow down it but if in doubt buy a quality new one. https://www.brickwerks.co.uk/brickwerks-blog/not-all-caps-are-made-equal-but-some-are-reposted/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Yep, I don't trust the Febi one I bought - it doesn't seem to seal on the filler n...

Re: Dalek cap

When ever you do a load of work on the cooling system it takes a while to get everything sealed it's common. Itchyfeet, you got that right! We had a new coolant pump professionally fitted a few months ago. Since then I've tweaked everything apart from the joints of the hard plastic pipes and the ho...

Re: Front end knocking?

Yes it does need to be dropped. Theoretically there is a little square on the top of the shock absorber that is to enable you stop it turning as you undo the top nut, in actual fact it will be useless as it will help to undo the nut a little but not remove it! I replaced the shock absorbers whilst ...

Re: Front end knocking?

Change it. I cut a piece of tubing from a suitably sized box spanner to replace the spacer sleeve! Cheap repair. :D Haven't a clue as to what the 'modification' is though. To my shame I still haven't done this job. Can I ask a couple of (probably stupid) questions please? I'm trying to work out if ...

Re: Front end knocking?

Sorry to come back to an old thread but I have had similar knocking coming from our van for almost 11 months. I have finally reached the conclusion that it's very likely to have the same cause as is described here, with the illustration of the bump stop and spacer sleeve. My question is: the diagram...

Re: DG will not idle with refurbished Pierburg 2E

It's Sunday - I should be putting the tree up and present-wrapping but... I have changed the battered old hose from the 'pancake' to the air cleaner for what appears to be a new one (£15 - good price). I thoroughly cleaned the pancake to remove a major buildup of oil and crud - God knows how long th...

Re: DG will not idle with refurbished Pierburg 2E

loose clips or split hose After I posted my last comment, I found a related post on the forum - I'm glad to know the solution could be a simple one. Ironically, I removed the hose clips that were in place before I sent the carb away and replaced them with 'better' ones. If it ain't broke... Many th...

Re: DG will not idle with refurbished Pierburg 2E

Oh dear, with the engine up to temperature I turned the idle screw 1.25 turns to get a smooth-ish idle.

Now I have coolant dripping from where the choke housing meets the carburettor body.

Time to call Bromyard, I think!

Re: DG will not idle with refurbished Pierburg 2E

I'd like to reply to the last few posts in a single message. First - thank you all for taking the time to read my very long post and for giving me the benefits of your experience :ok The timing was professionally set when a new distributor was fitted just over a year ago - the van has run very littl...

Re: DG will not idle with refurbished Pierburg 2E

checked ignition timing and vac unit on dizzy? a tested carb is tested with a good engine. hot air flap not required normally in uk, bung up a short piece of pipe at carb. A reply I just had on Facebook suggested that a properly set up carb may have a stronger vacuum and affect timing - so I get th...

DG will not idle with refurbished Pierburg 2E

Apologies for re-using text that I posted on the Facebook group, but this was hard enough to describe once: A couple of weeks ago, club members were kind enough to respond to my request for help after I bolted my Bromyard-refurbed Pierburg 2E back onto the DG and warmed the engine up very satisfacto...

Re: Axle stand placement

I'm not sure what you mean by outriggers, but I typically put jack stands at A, B, C or D... Thanks for this link clift_d. I mean points B and D. I put the spare under the van too - and I'll be doing it again today as I try to wrestle a new steering rack gaiter into place :? This is a great forum -...

Axle stand placement

Apologies if what looks like a simple matter has been dealt with before, I have looked on the Wiki and Archive. Recently, I changed the bearings, front discs and ARB bushes on our camper and I jacked the van up using a bottle jack with a block of wood between it and the jacking point in each case - ...

Re: Steering rack gaiter

factory boots wont have clips cos they fit perfect! aftermarket ones will last about a year before they split again! timer and time again I have fitted good used genuine ones which outlast new repo ones! I'm about to fit two new ones (repo I'm guessing). Accepting what you say about their lifespan,...
