Re: 1Z Tdi install photo diary
Hi Chris, Yes as earlier pics show the adapters from the 3 stud tdi turbo that can be bolted upto the JX exhaust manifold, and the adapter for the exhaust side of the turbo for the exhaust down pipe. The idea is that you can use the tdi turbo from the donor engine and the standard JX parts from the ...

Re: 1Z Tdi install photo diary
Still not alot of spare time to work on this but just before coming home we attacked the injectors again with success :D One of the injectors No 3 decided to give up and come quietly, but there are 2 still left in the head, but put some more `stuff` on them, so maybe have another go in a couple of d...

Re: 1Z Tdi install photo diary
Had another go at the injectors yesterday morning, we had a bloody great big slide hammer, and even with that we only managed to move one injector about 3mm. But this is progress and have sprayed some more magic stuff on them to hopefully loosen the alloy corrosion. If this dont work then the whole h...

Re: VW T25 JX Exhaust question
Yes the exhausts can be changed from early to late but you need the brackets that hold the exhaust. Late exhausts are longer and need the L shape brackets which adapt the early system to a late system.

Re: 1Z Tdi install photo diary
The engine will be getting a charge cooler, but a fair bit to do before we get to that. Still fighting with the stuck injectors, but need to get them out soon so the injectors can go for cleaning and pop testing and get the head all cleaned. Still working on customers vans so no real time to work on...

Re: 1Z Tdi install photo diary
Ok we spent the evening cleaning and putting the turbo back together, After some time in the pot they took some time to get off the 15 years of accumulated crud and they would do well to get soda blasted just to bring the sparkle back, but were not looking for a show engine, just functional and clea...

Re: 1Z Tdi install photo diary
Not much spare time due to other conversions, but stripped the turbo down to be cleaned. The bearings all feel fine with no end play so no need to send off for a rebuild. If there is no play the unit can still be stripped for cleaning as the main impellers and bearings are not taken to bits disturbi...

VNT Turbo - the inside info
We bought some turbos all off cars of less than 5 years old and main dealer returns, but all had issues mainly stuck vanes or damage to the vanes. The stripdown is fairly straight forward so no point documenting this. Turbo stripped was a good 2011 unit although a fair bit of carbon build up and was...

Re: 1Z Tdi install photo diary
Few more bits done, mainly parts back from platers and the painter next door ( Wedges Workshop) were a bit bored waiting for paint to dry, so I asked if they had any spare bottom of tin paint left. So the block is now painted in Roll Royce Red, although it looks alot brighter with the camera flash. ...

Re: Upholstery company in Exeter
Vlux Alan had his done in Exeter, and there is another one in Newton Abbot in Heathfield.
Only heard good things, and seen some of there work in customers vans. Would not say it is professional but good value for money.

Re: 2001 bfg radial mud terrains, any good??
The 6 year rule seems ridiculous, our inspection/condition testing seems to work well, hardly surrounded by cars blowing tyres everywhere. Infact, only ever seen one complete sudden tyre failure (loss of control) & that was on a newish Smart car That is not entirely true is it, you have seen an...

Re: 1Z Tdi install photo diary
This engine is to use as most of the original parts as possible, including the turbo. The turbo flange on the 1Z has a 3 bolt fixing, but the JX has a 4 bolt fixing, so an adapter plate is required. We already make some of these for the AAZ and VNT so had most of the plans required. These will be ma...

Re: Diesel fan belt chirp
We put a clutched pulley on but found that some times the noise was still there. The only way we cured it was to replace the bottom pulley as the old one had a slight wobble, and concluded that the pulley was rubbing on the ribs of the belt. Andy I`ll find the number for the pulley we have on ours a...
