Re: Dizzy melt down & no spark , update " all is good "

my new module arrived and the replacement vacuum unit.
All fitted with no problems and fired up straight away.
I've been driving it a few days now, haven't covered a great deal of miles but is running great and all appears to have been resolved.
Thanks for all the pointers :ok

Re: Dizzy melt down & no spark , update

hi again Right , test light arrived and carried out the outlined procedure. It would point to the " transistorised ignition " in the distributor as all is good until point 5 of your test with the wires reconnected , I touch the - terminal and get no light at all ( when cranking or not ). T...

Re: Dizzy melt down & no spark .

Hi guys Haven't got a circuit tester probe thing but I can pick one up, I've got a multi meter ? But obviously I don't know how to use it  Not sure why mine had an earth going from the coil to the body. I'd already ordered another coil before I read your reply a guys, it won't hurt to keep it o...

Re: Dizzy melt down & no spark .

It had a double vacuum unit, I don't think you can get them.
I'll have a look tonight , if not I might just buy yet another coil.
If I remove my tachometer wire fro the coil, the dizzy wires and my fuel pump wires, should I just have a live going to the coil ?
Because mine has got an earth as well.

Re: Dizzy melt down & no spark .

No, but I did buy them both from " Simons bbc ". I bought the dizzy first , then the rotar arm melted so i messaged them to ask about it. They said it was probably caused by my original coil so I asked them what they would recommend to go with that dizzy I bought from them. They recommend ...

Re: Dizzy melt down & no spark .

Hi again itchy feet I checked the new coil and the old coil and these are readings I came up with ( don't if this is right cos I'm not sure of the settings on multimeter ). If I set the multimeter to ohms and to .20, I get for the primary Old coil = 00.8 New coil = 00.8 Then set multimeter to 20k , ...

Re: Dizzy melt down & no spark , update

hi again Right then, battery fully charged, earth wire put on the dizzy, removed the black ignition live from the coil +'and put a fused wire directly to the battery. Cranked it over and still no spark. Just still the little faint spark when you start cranking and the little faint spark when you sto...

Re: Dizzy melt down & no spark .

Cheers again
Just thought I'd check in case I did any damage .
I've just done the wise thing ( not just for this problem but for any future ones ) and invested in a Bentley Manual !
I hope it's worth the money
Cheers again and I'll report back tomorrow, again lol

Re: Dizzy melt down & no spark .

Hi again Battery charged , Earth wire added. This might sound a bit thick lol With regards to running a wire from the battery, do u mean to just touch iron the coil ( and see if I gets spark from the king lead ) or should I wire it to the battery and turn it over and see if there's a spark. Probably...

Re: 1981 2.0cu , distributor replacement, oh dear again, Update!

Hi, yet again big herb. I'm afraid I'm a bit unsure of it all now. I'll tell u exactly what I did . Turned pulley to tdc so timing mark pointed to 0 on scale and rotar arm pointed to No 1 lead. Removed old dizzy, dropped new one in and made sure the lug was in the slot and nipped up. Started engine,...
