Re: Need advice from the forum sages
Right then am going to ignore the yurt jokes... for now :) Got her running nice & fine, managed a 550 mile round trip last weekend to go to green gathering in Wales. Encountered some issues but the one that has me stumped is how do you repair/replace the tips on the front gear shift rod. Itchyfe...

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
Thought would give an update on this thread; lots happened in the last 11 months (moved house, now live in a yurt! vans been on the back burner for quite a while) Am chasing down the ignition coil from scratch having replaced the tci. I know its not ideal but would one of the various sites like vwhe...

No as long as it is a carb model, not injection, they are all the same (he said pretty confidently![]()

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
Been trying local breakers & not having much luck asking for "80's to early 90's passat, golf, sirocco or audi" Just occurred to me while asking - does the engine volume need to match up for the ignition amp? As in does the donor vehicle need to be a 1.8ltr as well? P.s. sorry in break...

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
If you suspect the spark, if it were I, I would find another known good coil and ignition amp to borrow and substitute (one at a time) to see if that sorts it. Then, if that doesn't do it, maybe do the same with the hall sensor in the dizzy too. These parts can be got from T25 breakers on here chea...

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
Is there a good spark at the plugs? This is the issue at the moment, fuel is ok & turning over it fast enough. The timing was me just being paranoid. I know it is fine. The spark is white, not blue, and seems to be pretty crappy. Which is why im going to go check ignition coil and clean spark p...

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
Sorry to hear you still have problems with your engine, but this is confusing:- Vento Haynes manual does not have ignition coil easily labelled, only glow plugs ... bold by me = :? (glow plugs only on a Diesel, so you won't find an ignition coil on that diagram ;)) I know, which is what is s...

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
Aye been cross checking between the two haynes manuals and tracing wires around. ID'd one wire as likely to be an AC tap for tacho, which is not connected as no tacho for alternator in vehicle at the moment. She is not starting again, found out; No current draw from battery when ignition off. Batter...

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
Thanks Ghost. Will look into getting the correct replacement parts in due course then, apparently finding the connectors can be somewhat troublesome, but a good hunt would be a nice distraction. Also thank you for the tip about the radio, current thinking is we must have another power draw somewhere...

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
We do indeed have a 4 speed gear box, the van is an 87 (the previous chaos being due to the engine being from something else). Tightened the hose clip up, topped up the hydraulic fluid level (was low) and clutch is working again, just need to tidy it up. On a seperate note I am going to re-read this...

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
So is this original tubing (plastic) meant to be attached to the slave cylinder with putty or another means? Also does haynes have it wrong; http://s30.postimg.org/xa4r71hxd/rorys.jpg Namely this "original tubing" going from where the "hydraulic hose" attached on the left to the ...

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
RIght, have put old alternator back in place and attached exciter wire, but not managed to test it. That is one of todays jobs. The other is trying to address this clutch issue. Looking at haynes T25 manual the is a "hydraulic pipe" running from a hydraulic hose. From what I can see someon...

Re: Need advice from the forum sages
So this mysterious blue wire could be the exciter wire for when running @ low revs? Noticed on back of new alternator is has three connections, B+(battery) D+ & E (earth?). The old alternator has two connectors, B+ and D+ - the exciter wire should go to D+ Looking at the back of the old alternat...
