Re: Any Aircooled experts know their cams?
Thanks bigherb thats not a million miles off and so may suit DGs I checked Vagcat and you are right solid lifters so I guess not a straight swap. I wonder what engine rebuilders are doing about lack of cams? Probably refitting the old ones From some of the units that I've had come through you'd not...

Re: Fantasy Engine
My personal favourite is the 2270cc type 4 (I run one in my bay) 78mm DPR crank H beam rods Web 86a cam 96mm Keith Black pistons 44x38 valve heads Low impact on the case (no machining required) Most expensive part of the build is the heads.. This will run fine through a stock exhaust system, you jus...

Re: 1.9DG Oil pressure gone
Well....
1 of 2 things going on here...
1 the bearings are too big for your crank
Or
2 Your case has been previously line bored and the bearings are loose in the case
But really both are something you'd check when doing the assembly...
Either way something is amiss

Re: Low oil pressure at warm idle/lots of metallic in oil
What do you reckon for bedding in the cam lobes? 2000 rpm for 20 mins? It's what I do on new cams... I've never personally tried to do it with an old cam and new lifters Plenty of people saying they've done it with no ill effects, and plenty of others saying it's a 50/50 Type 4 stuff is normally ki...

Re: 1.9DG Oil pressure gone
Just as an after FYI.... The oil pump you fitted would've been a 68-71 type 1 oil pump...
I use this version on type 4 builds as it doesn't extend into the case as far as the later oil pumps...
So I suspect you've been a victim of a mislabelled product.

Re: Low oil pressure at warm idle/lots of metallic in oil
As no one has said it yet, but the bottom end needs to be stripped too...
You've already said that you've seen a large quantity of metal particles in it... seat regression is a very unlikely cause for it... my money is on someone putting new lifters on an old cam, and not doing a bedding in run...

Broken studs are a pain, but only in the strip down you have to do to get the case to the stage where you can bolt it to the milling machine... LVH Engines & Restos Type 4 Aircooled specialist In all the years I've been on here and around VW's, this is the first time I've heard of you = dark ho...

That's a GRP wing against steel bodywork... Just as a reference for you..
I've no personal experience with the GRP locker doors, but as long as they're made correctly, then they'll be no problem at all

I'm pretty sure I've seen someone ask the same question recently, and the general consensus was if you wanted to go down that road, then you should really convert the front panel out for the later wc version

Where is the oil coming from? Base of the pump or the overflow pipe??
