My Kombi start 100% but when I drive for a while and stop it does not idle but as sson as I started it idle again , please help where do I started to search for the fault?

I have a 1991 VW Kombi 2,5I , I replace the fuel pump relay, As soon as I put the ignition on the fuel pump is running and then went still and the I try to start the vehicle with no success,What can be wrong and where must I start,,,,
