Re: 1981 T25 engine blew up! Advice needed.

Thank you very much Chris. I appreciate the suggestions. The mechanic who said it was terminal is doing a compression test for me today, then I will probably take the suggestions on here about where to send it for repair - it sounds like it won't be as much as we feared, even if we have to put in a ...

Re: 1981 T25 engine blew up! Advice needed.

Thank you for the replies. When I started the van on Friday there was some white smoke that my stepson commented on. We then went and filled up about half a tank, using the green pump. We drove from Oxford to Brighton - just over 100 miles. About 2/3 of the way on a big hill the van lost power signi...

Re: 1981 T25 engine blew up! Advice needed.

No, there definitely wasn't diesel in it - we filled up before leaving on Friday but I absolutely didn't put diesel in. The breakdown occurred Sunday. I've just remembered now, there was still oil in it - I think the RAC guy looked on the motorway and there was still oil, about as much as there had ...

Re: 1981 T25 engine blew up! Advice needed.

I checked the oil before we left on our trip, it was at the first line from the bottom - could have done with another pint or two but I thought it would be ok. On the Friday when we travelled to Brighton the car lost power and seemed sluggish on a big hill, but recovered after that, no white smoke, ...

Re: 1981 T25 engine blew up! Advice needed.

Thank you ghost. I have emailed elitevw - their prices are a bit higher than they say on their website, but I suppose we won't know what's wrong until someone actually looks at it. I will report back if we decide to do it, otherwise you'll see our lovely van up for sale :(

Re: 1981 T25 engine blew up! Advice needed.

Wow, thank you for the rapid responses. Yes, it is an air-cooled petrol engine, 2 L. We are in Oxford. The mechanic didn't look at it - after I told him my story about the massive clouds of white smoke and the total loss of power, he said the engine was terminal and we'd need a new one, and would al...

1981 T25 engine blew up! Advice needed.

Hi there, we own a 1981 T25 which we bought last September with the assurance that a new engine had been fitted in 2011 and had only done 500 miles since then. We didn't use it much over the winter, but have started using it frequently with the good weather. Last weekend white smoke began pouring ou...
