Re: 1z tdi - power loss - fast idle - limp home?
Had the exact same fault on ours today. I couldn't read the fault codes and so a Google search on the symptoms threw this thread up. Unfortunately the thread starter didn't come back with his solution, but using the useful information above, I cured our problem. It turned out to be a bad connection ...

Great - thanks. Will be checking that one out too to make sure it's working.dave friday wrote:The switch turns on the auxiliary water pump[should be on the fire wall on the front of the engine compartment]
Cheers for the very helpful replies. Think everything is in hand - for the time being!

Re: 1986 1.6TD JX Coolant Senders
The senders on the heater flange are both the same part and vary from 1200ohms [cold] to 25/50ohms [hot] The one on the flange on the side of the head is a switch that switches on when/if the water gets to 104deg c !! Does the rad fan come on? But what does that sender switch on/off? Re Rad fan - t...

Great find. Thanks! I looked and couldn't find it. Can you post me a link to the wiki entry?

1986 1.6TD JX Coolant Senders
Evening! As far as I know there are 3 coolant senders in the cooling system on these engines. (1) is located in the hose housing on the top/side of the cylinder head [pipe goes to radiator at front]. (2) is on the top side of the coolant hose coming out of the back of the cylinder head [pipe goes to...

Re: square lights
besides the above, have them acid etched with your registration number.
It should be harder to sell on when the thieves try to get rid of the etch on the glass. if they attempt it, it'll stand out like a sore thumb.

Re: Torque wrenches versus old parts
Going right back to your initial post, it seems that the oil bracket is leaking. If this is where it meets the engine block, it's probably nothing to do with how tight the bolts are. The casting warps, and doesn't sit flat on the block. What I do is to lap the face of the aluminium bracket on a pie...

Re: Torque wrenches versus old parts
I surmise further that the 'safe' minimum settings were calculated by the designers for use on brand new manufactured parts being assembled together (e.g in the factory) rather that older components which inevitably in one way or another will have some 'wear and tear'? Correct - we do not take wear...

Re: Torque wrenches versus old parts
There is an commercial argument for using the lowest possible torque figure. If we do not provide a torque figure and the customer shears the bolt or, more likely, strips the thread in a casing - the customer can knock on our door and demand free repair. If we give them the highest level and they d...

As much as possible I do yes, however, I'm sure you have also thought that the click just doesn't seem enough once torqued down. Yes indeed, when the wrench clicks, I sometimes think it's not tight enough. The sump bolts are a classic example, they appear only to be slightly tighter than 'hand-tigh...

Torque wrenches versus old parts
I've been using torque wrenches for years to tighten every nut and bolt on basically everything. I have a choice of 3 in my garage (various makes and torque scales) and I even carry one of them in the van so that it can be used to torque up the wheel nuts should I have a puncture and have to change ...
