Re: Passenger Side Wind-Up Window

...just to say thanks to MM for helping me out. Replacement window slipped in a treat, and the trims are way better than my old ones.

Old Rosie says Cheers Mate!

Re: Passenger Side Wind-Up Window

Perhaps your glass is covered on your insurance policy. I'd contact them to see what your options are. Could prove cheaper, and faster, to let them handle it :) Fair point, I kinda thought they would give me a hard time come renewal but it's worth a phone call tomorrow. Guess I'll have to report it...

Passenger Side Wind-Up Window

Hi Folks Some idiot has put a brick through the passenger side wind-up window of Old Rosie. Scumbags. I just wondered what my options are, to put it right... I can only find one on eebay for £50 by pure luck in my searches (search for "VW Transporter T25 Caravelle Passenger Front Door Drop Glas...

Re: intermittent starter issue

Just to close-off on this one, I've now refitted the 'fettled' cheapo starter, along with a new oil-soaked bush and... still the same will-she-won't-she malarkey on the key turn. Sometimes perfecto, sometimes just a click, sometimes silence... Pulled off the steering column shroud for a look-see and...

Re: intermittent starter issue

Just to update on my own electrical woes... Thoroughly tested every-which-way with the new starter still on the van, and the old starter on the deck. Tried the trigger, the main lead, the solenoid and the starter all in isolation and combination and with the van battery and a standalone one... End r...

Re: intermittent starter issue

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-RzcsdFoRQ Just do that but don't run motor more than a second. If you ran it as long as he does, you'll wreck it. Thanks mate, good video. When the starter is pulled off the van I'll try to test the solenoid only, so I'm not spinning up an unsupported starter. ...B...

Re: intermittent starter issue

Okay, now I am totally confused :? Starter is in-situ on the van and I have disconnected all connections on the starter/solenoid. That leaves me with 5 possible connections: Main-power-in (top connector on solenoid) Main-power-out (bottom connector on solenoid) Trigger-wire (spade connector on solen...

Re: intermittent starter issue

I have just read on here about someone using a 12mm (I think) tap to remove the old bush and he said it only took him/her 10 minutes. I can't find the post now = odd :? When I did mine I used "other" techniques and it took ages with lots of cramp, skinned knuckles and swearing... The OP (...

Re: intermittent starter issue

Must, should, I think the answer is 'always' if fitting new starter. They're under £2 at GSF. You shouldn't run starter off the vehicle as it is unsupported. Seen many knacker a new starter doing just that. The two large nuts on starter are effectively bridged when solenoid clicks (or should be) as...

Re: intermittent starter issue

Yes, bush would affect both. Not saying that IS the problem but it won't help. Certainly if fitting a new starter you MUST replace that bush. I detest starter problems so really went to town on the charging/starter cables and fitted new with soldered eyelets each end but I suspect yours may be igni...

Re: intermittent starter issue

...a bad bush can create havoc though. It can in extreme cases bind the starter so much, it causes arcing and burning to the commutator. Thanks for the quick response CovKid! Sounds like replacing the oilite bush is unavoidable for me then - dammit that's the one thing I was hoping to rule out, bas...

Re: intermittent starter issue

Huge apology for hijacking the thread! I'm suffering similar issues so have looked at the recent forum discussions to get a plan of action together. Just wanted some input from you kind folks, to see if I could try anything else. My starter was a bit hit/miss - sometimes all good, other times I got ...

Exhaust Header Gasket

Hi Folks I set about removing part of my exhaust as I had convinced myself that it was about to drop off... Then on closer inspection I found that the dodgy bit is not the actual exhaust, but some kind of heat-collector shroud thing that's plumbed in around the outside of the exhaust and has big air...
