Thanks, did you buy that strengthening frame or have it made ?

Re: Westy pop top

Yes, lots of people have done this. It's easier to do it this way (cut a hole and bolt the roof on), than it is to cut off the whole thing at the gutters, and weld a new one in it's place. That said, neither of them are 'easy jobs'. Here's a thread showing how mine was done... http://forum.club8090...

Westy pop top

Hi there,
Has anybody here retro fitted a westy pop top without using a roof cut ?
I've got the option of doing either, cutting the roof and fitting just the pop top I could probably do myself, unfortunately welding in the westy roof cut is beyond my capability.
Thanks,
Stefan

Westfalia swivel

Hi there, Can anyone tell me how this would have been welded in place ? It seems to fit perfectly between the existing runners, not sure if I need to cut the old ones out ? I've positioned it slightly forward to allow the battery lid to shut, not sure if I should cut the battery lid to allow it to s...

Re: Hightop

Hi Bene & John,
Thanks for the replies, I think Sikaflex is the stuff. There's no manufacturers marks that I can find, it's very flexible around the edges, I'm guessing I'll need to to some internal timber bracing to keep it in place while the mastic sets.

Hi there, Just bought this off eBay, anybody have experience of fitting one, are they simply bonded in place or some kind of mechanical fixing. This one looks to have been glued on and that's it ! http://i322.photobucket.com/albums/nn422/45chop/Mobile%20Uploads/8838D265-2CD7-42B0-BB1D-61DE0076C06F.j...

Re: Syncro identification help, 16" with some 14" or all 16" ?

If the trailing arms are 16" then the mounting point of the shock absorber will be unevenly higher, compare to 14" which is dead center. I think given the state of the current 16" trailing arms I'll probably go with my current 14" westy ones. It will be good to see your cv prote...

Re: Syncro identification help, 16" with some 14" or all 16" ?

Why a 16"? making a lot of unnecessary hassle as now you will need to get 16" arms for a start as the ones you have are fooked. Good luck with that! The 16" arms ain't a problem anymore :ok I've rebuilt a couple of pairs now Hi Dai, I suppose a lot depends on the extent of the rust b...

Re: Syncro identification help, 16" with some 14" or all 16" ?

Looking forward to seeing this develop. Your Doka has the standard front driveshafts which is a bonus as the thicker ones provided for 16" van with front lock are very hard to find If ever needed. Also you have the CV boot protectors on ( the rubber part has long since gone ) Lefteris has a 16...
