Re: arrows on pistons

What a pain!. Took the head off and cleaned everything up. I don't think it would be possible to get the sealant off the rubber seal but will have a go. Ordered 2 new compression seals for the top of the liners. Motto read instructions 4 or 5 times, and assemble once!. On a different tack I found ou...

arrows on pistons

Reassembling liners and pistons in crankcase. I assumed the arrow on the pistons meant that they would face the crank pulley end of the crankcase. Having just gone through Haynes again it says that original pistons had an arrow pointing to the flywheel end. The parts I used were from Brickwerks afte...

Re: Making a start and progress

Crankcase mounted on engine stand again. Luckily the height of the engine on the workmate table was exactly right for the engine stand. Assembled valves into one cylinder head. Cheapo valve spring compressor worked well. All the tools that I have bought off eBay for this rebuild have been terrific. ...

Re: Making a start

I have the gasket/seal kit from Brickwerks. It has a tube of Dirko, and a small white tube without a name. Is the dirko for the rubber head gasket, and the little white tube for sealing the cylinder head nuts ?. The cylinders and pistons I'm putting in are again from Brickwerks and come as a complet...

Crankcase together. All turning smoothly. Did the flywheel end float which was less of a fiddle than I thought using new shims. Final fitting of flywheel tomorrow, then I will put it back on the engine stand to fit cylinder sleeves pistons heads et cetera.

Re: Making a start

Con rods came from Brickwerks new with stretch bolts fitted. Followedthe instructions and interested to know the length of the bolts after final torquing. There's quite a lot on the Internet about stretch bolts..philmcC

Re: Making a start

Thought I was making really good progress . One half of the crank case with crank and con rods and camshaft in place. Took ages of time to put gunk on the mating faces of the crankcase. Very pleased with the fit. Started to tighten up the crankcase nuts bolts. Then I saw the little bolt that secures...

Re: Making a start

Everything coming together. The final 2 cylinder head studs removed by spark erosion. Expensive, but I had tried everything else. Have done a trial assembly of crankcase with crankshaft and camshaft in place all well. I notice in some of the exploded diagrams there is a 'spacer'looking like a small ...

Re: Fitting main bearings to 2.1 WBX crankshaft

Thanks itchy, very helpful. There are 2 thrust washers with slugs. Do they go either side of the bearing with slugs pointing towards bearing?. Sorry to be a pain but I want to get it right.philmcC

Fitting main bearings to 2.1 WBX crankshaft

Looking at the new main bearings I've been supplied with and the crankcase, it seems there is only one dowel fitted. In some of the instructions they talk about 5 dowels. A couple of the main bearings have small raised lugs on the outer surface, and how do the thrust washers with lugs fit in the cra...

"> WBX con rod stretch bolts

I'm sure this has been covered in the forum before but I can't find the information that I want. I'm assuming you can't use the stretch bolts twice, and they seem to be unobtainable just now. What are the options?.philmcC

Re: Making a start

Crankcase halves cylinder heads and other bits and pieces off for vapour blasting. Collect the end of next week. Managed to damage the distributor drive gear when pulling off the camshaft gear so have a new one. I will know better when removing the heavy circlip,, and not get involved with a leverin...
