Odd he still cant spell after it being pointed out to him .... and he such a seasoned VW van owner .... I'd love to see the Syncro sticker on his 88 GL !!

205 80 16's were never an option on a 14" Syncro. They were standard on a 16" Syncro but the transmission, dampers and brakes were all different to a 14" and for good reason. 215/75/15 on a 14" is good enough and anything bigger brings another set of problems. Why not try 225/70/...

185R14 - 215/75/15 = 7.98% (652 vs 704)

Original tyres = 185R14
Optional tyres = 205/70/14 & 205R14 (16" is another matter)

I have bought six vehicles off E Bay, four Mercs from UK and two Syncros from Germany. Only one dud amongst them but I came away quits after a battle. Two of the Mercs I still have and are probably the best cars I will ever own!

Stick it up on E Bay with a reserve of £5k and set the bidding at £0.99p and see where the bidding goes to. That will be its value ..... on the day!

Those members are not really chassis rails but energy absorbing deformation beams... ah well... a pragmatic mod. Storing spare wheels is a perennial Syncro conundrum. And that doez bring cg'eth fwd & down rather than back & up... call it a compromise Andrew? Yes not chassis rails in the tru...
