Re: AJT piston interchange

(In fact, if you can have someone look on a shelf and r...

Simon:

This thing has been sitting about 2 years, so it (and I) can wait until Monday.

AJT piston interchange

Sorry to have been gone so long, but our T3 project stalled a couple of years ago when I got far too busy trying to build new equipment for my business to play with cars and trucks. We are putting an AJT (2.5TDI low HP) in '87 Westy Syncro. Got the SA bellhousing, rebuilt gearbox with decoupler, new...

The 944 engine is NOT VW, it is Audi. The original 924 used a modified Audi 90/100 2 litre fitted with an OHC head, and the 944 and 968 are merely developments of that block. However, since VW also put Audi engines into T3s, it is not that big a deal. Just start with the RSA bellhousing from the 2.6...

Kit will go back up when I have all the bits in stock.
Do you mean air/liquid CACs? Any photos, prices, specs?

This is one time I would hold out for that ABA. The extra stroke of the 2.0 litre pays back a lot more in the required torque department for hauling a T3 around.

s. If you look carefully at the page, both 228 AND 240 clutch parts are listed. Pat yes,but only the AAT and AEL are diesels and they are def 240mm :) I ordered the only easily available flywheel today, and a 228 clutch kit. However, if there is any way I can squeeze a 240 in there, I will. The onl...

Moonshine: Many thanks for the answers/links. I have never encountered vagcat, but you can be assured it will live on my screen for many more reasons. If you look carefully at the page, both 228 AND 240 clutch parts are listed. Unfortunately, only the AUDI flywheels are listed, and, since no 2.4 or ...

Flywheel & clutch for 2.5 TDI/T3

Those with a very good memory may recall that we bought some of the bits to do this swap a couple of years ago, but business, medical and family committments have left it sitting in a corner most of the time. To update: we had to hire a full time mechanic, since this, and a bunch of other projects p...

Echo on Caveman's comments. Giles Gallie in Toronto is a very good guy to deal with, and has a humongous good reputation amongst the TD and m-TDI set here in NA. We have him doing a 2.5TDI to m-TDI for our T3 Syncro project now. For the real diehards, there is enough information around the www.vwdie...

I just got off of the phone with Glenn Cook, the resident syncro (and other VW) gearbox specialist in Burnaby BC. He is doing a rebuild on our Westy Syncro, with Weddle top gears and Peloquin TBD diff (for 2.5 tdi swap). Our mainshaft had been damaged due to 3-4 detent failure getting under 3rd need...

Simon: Thanks for the replies (and the links you sent me). Sorry to take so long to respond, but I am (as usual) travelling and get bent over the cost of connections at airports. I will check in at the other forum(s...forae), but I am here because it is going in as an alternate engine for a T3 Syccr...

2.5 AJT questions

Greetings from the Great White North Been gone quite a while (working) and nearly zip has been done on our Syncro Westy project. We actually hired a full time mechanic to move along the dozens of unfinished projects, and just as he got the powertrain out of the T3, his shoulder blew out and we lost ...

AJT in Syncro

Been gone a while (doubt that anyone noticed, but I thought I'd mention that) and hope to finally get home in a month or so to start in on the massive pile of projects. Now near the very top of the list is fitting the AJT into '87 Westy Sycro. Got the RSA bellhousing, will buy clutch, flywheel &...
