Re: Starts then stops......

Hi I've had similar sounding problems on my (2.1 DJ) van recently - see here: http://forum.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=39&t=162674&start=15" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I think it was caused by a faulty Hall generator inside the dizzy. £35 from Brickwerks for n...

Re: Bosch green coil

Just to update this thread again  Had a week of trouble free driving, then the problem returned. Van would start and run fine. After a few miles it would cut out, and refuse the restart. Wait for 5 minutes, then restart OK and continue for a few more miles. Repeat. I've now replaced the Hall ...

Re: Bosch green coil

Just to update this thread It was the ignition amplifier that had failed. I bought a 'new old stock' OEM amplifier from Brickwerks, which did the trick. When I removed the failed BERU unit, it had thermal paste smeared over the back of it, so I must have used it after all. Senior moment....Not sure ...

Re: Oh the rust dose it ever end

I second what itchyfeet said. I've tried sand blasting, 'mule skinner' wire brush, rust treatments - all the usual stuff. Unless you cut out the rust, it'll be back in 12-18 months. Get yourself a dremmel for xmas and a bundle of mini cut-off discs (from China), and gently ease out the rust. Keeps t...

Re: Bosch green coil

Oh sh*t I remember seeing the paste in the box after I'd fitted the amp

I'd forgotten about that - might explain premature failure...

Re: Bosch green coil

Done a few more checks today: Battery voltage at alternator was 12.7 volts All earth connections cleaned and remade With 12v direct to coil (bypassing ignition switch), I still get a weak yellow spark Tried the new bosch coil - no improvement- yellow spark Ran through a few more Bentley tests - the ...

Re: Bosch green coil

itchyfeet wrote:Have you tried bypassing ignition 12V and connecting 12V direct to coil?

So a weak spark could be caused by voltage less than 12v from ignition?

itchyfeet wrote:grey label can be much higher on secondary both will work.

So I could also try a grey label coil?

Re: Bosch green coil

Trouble is, the Bentley manual says that coil must be ok before proceeding to check the next component

Bosch green coil

Hi Got a poorly van at the moment - stalling and sudden loss of power. I've got a weak yellow spark at the plugs. When I measured primary/secondary coil resistance, it was out of spec (secondary coil 4000 ohms, spec 2400-3500 ohms). The coil is only a couple of years old, genuine bosch green label. ...

Re: Brown trousers moment (oversteer)

Hi

Tyres are made by Kleber - cant remember the exact size but they are the proper load rating for a commercial / van.

I did check for oil on the road / tyres. There were a few spots on the road but certainly no oil slick.

Cheers

Brown trousers moment (oversteer)

Hi Had a near miss whilst driving in Brittany this week. Exiting a round about, the van went into a sideways slide and continued to slew up the dual carriageway until I managed to regain control. The kids thought it was hilarious but Mrs was not so impressed  I checked the van over before con...

Re: Gear lever quick shift kits

Just to update this thread I fitted a t3volution short shifter kit to my 5sp van. Very easy to fit (10 minutes - see here https://vwt25.blog/2016/05/31/short-shift-kit/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and really improved the gear change - much quicker 1st into 2nd by virtue...

Re: Gear lever quick shift kits

Does it improve the transition 1st into 2nd gear on a dogleg 5 speed box?

Every time, pulling away from traffic lights, I can almost feel the ire of the driver behind wondering why I'm dawdling!

Re: Starter motor

Hi Brickwerks sell REMY. However..... I bought a REMY starter motor from EuroCarParts in March 2016, and by Jan 17 it had failed (as diagnosed by RAC). To be fair to ECP, I got a full refund, no quibbling, including the value of the original core they weren't able to give me back I got a genuine rem...
