It shot its load all over my face (not porn!!!).

OK, so I was trying to bleed the bleeding thing (1.9DG) after replacing the thermostat housing (and a pipe that was blocked solid with a clay-like substance) and apart from the almost constant bubbles, there was at most a slight dribble from the radiator bleed screw. At this point I should mention t...

I was just removing the thermostat housing and when I took off a fabric coated pipe, which leads from the bleed screw at the top to the white tube that runs around the top of the engine bay, I found that it was completely bunged up with what looked like a dark brown clay. This was totally solid and...

If you have the correct VW code you should be able to get the paint mixed at any auto-paint place (even Halfrauds do it).

But bear in mind that if its the original paintwork, it will have had 20 odd years to fade and won't exactly match the new paint.

Onion No, just the one van. I don't think the mayonaisey oil and the thermostat problem are connected. The engine arrived with me without a 'stat. When I tried to take the cover off I found that it had a knacked bolt. Or more precisely, one of the nuts in the inside of the bottom part of the 'stat c...

Thank you Mr Onion, or should I call you T'?
I'll drain it tomorrow and see if it seperates.
As far as I know its the original engine (1986) and its done 79k (or I suppose it could be 179k, or 279k).

It doesn't smell of petrol and the top of the oil filler has a definate mayonaiseyness about it.
Also the oil breather pipe is smokey and appears to be spitting water.

Engine in its final death throes?

Just done the daily checks (1.9DG) and find the coolant level has dropped and the oil level has risen.

Should I start digging the grave?

Thermostat Housing Part Number

Can anyone tell me the VW part number(s) for an early 1986 1.9DG Thermostat Housing (top and bottom and any gaskets). Unfortunately the chap at my local VW parts department is a little careless when determining part numbers and I would really like to be able to go to him with the definitive numbers....

Thanks for all your help chaps. I took the carb off and cleaned it up as per the instructions given by Skell on this thread http://archive.club8090.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=14948 (I would recommend they be transferred to the Wiki for future reference by dipsh*ts such as myself). Anyway, that and replac...
