Re: Loss of power, strong smell.

Not had chance to check the wheels for heat since I had the problem. My first worry was the clutch had gone. Makes more sense it's a brake issue now, amazing how sleeping on the problem can help :-) Moved the van a short distance tonight and the clutch is fine. Hoping it's just the handbrake that ma...

Re: Loss of power, strong smell.

My initial thoughts was clutch, but the revs didnt pick up when driving, they were constant with my speed, even going downhill was a struggle. After sleeping on it I'm beginning to think its my brakes. I also did a clutch test after I posted this, kept the handbrake full on, put it in 4th gear and t...

Loss of power, strong smell.

Hi, I have a 1988, 1.7d westy. On the way home tonight the van was running great then came to a hill, it lost pulling power. Unfortunately I was coming on to a bypass so had to limp on & struggled to a layby. When stopped there was a strong smell, hard to say what it was as I have a cold. Checke...

Re: Oil filter goes pop

Oil pump replaced and all ok. A messy job but relatively easy to do. People right that the pressure relief valve is not serviceable. Thanks everyone for your help and advice :-)

Re: Oil filter goes pop

I've been told that the pressure relief valve is in the pump and isn't serviceable. But if I have to remove the sump I might as well replace it as it's only £40 from Brickwerks :-)

Re: Oil filter goes pop

It happened just after I set off so, like you say it was a cold engine.

Parts are ordered for a new oil pump, filter and sump gasket, so that's Saturdays entertainment sorted.

Is there anything else I could be checking while I have the sump off?

Re: Oil filter goes pop

Just goes to show always make sure you get the right parts.

On a different forum they say it's not serviceable so looks like a new pump

Re: Oil filter goes pop

I got the oil filter from Just Kampers so assume it is the right one, it's a Bosch as well so hoped it was a good make. But have been I should go for a Mann filter.

Oil filter goes pop

My oil filter has gone pop. It's a 1.7diesel. I had to fix an engine mount not long ago so had to remove the oil cooler and associated pipework to get to it, but not sure if this is related. I fixed a leak at the base of the dipstick yesterday as oil was bubbling out, seal had perished. Its a brand ...
