Re: Reccomendations for bodywork and resprayers in Bristol
I've used Jeff's VW Shack for engine repairs and mechanical works and he does a great job. Not used for body works but he's doing lots of restorations at the moment. Check out his Facebook page. Alway worth speaking to him, his website is a bit out of date.,

Re: Replacing the dashboard plastic PCB
I rewired mine last weekend. Did the main board then made a small Pcb board that fitted into the plug end. For the dash lights I used 3 small 50mm section of led tape that I fed into the existing slots, worked a treat.
Great thread and pretty easy to follow.

2.0 CU with fuel injection
At the end if the summer I had serious engine troubles. It turned out that my engine was shot. It was running on 3 cylinders with one of the others giving very poor compression. A local VW garage had a look and the decision was made to fit a new(recon) engine as it would not be economical to carry o...

Re: Engine rebuild bristol area
Update. Van is with Jeff's VW Shack having a "new" recon engine fitted. The old one had lots of problems and all added up to make it not economical for a repair. The engine is now back in and needs some tinkering with the carbs so hopefully this can be resolved using the box of spares that...

Re: Engine rebuild bristol area
Mike, that's what I am going to do, don't really want to suggest anything. 2 people have had a quick look and as there is a lot of oil everywhere it looks like the seals have gone somewhere. It's blowing oil from the exhaust so not a good sign either. Just want to get it sorted so I can enjoy next y...

Engine rebuild bristol area
Looks like I'm going to have the engine out and at best a top end rebuild, well that's what I have been told. The engine is running on 3 cylinder and the suspect cylinder is very oily and not firing. Ive limped it along for as long as I can now it's time to get it sorted. Anyone recommend someone in...

Re: Running problems
Took out the suspect oily plug from cylinder 2 to find it looking brand new. Checked spark and looked ok. Could it be lack of fuel to this cylinder ?? Checked another plug to find as expected showing signs of heat and a bit of carbon deposits. Now how do I check to see if fuel is getting to this cyl...

Re: Running problems
Yes I suspect compression is poor on one cylinder as it's blowing some oil, number 2 plug is very oily, so suspect that's the one. Trying to limp along to the end of the summer then get it looked at. Are any of the engine oil treatments worth a try????

Running problems
Following on from last weekend when I changed the fuel pump for an electric one. I thought all was fine until yesterday when I took it out it seems like it's running on 3 cylinders. I checked spark, distributer and rotor. What else can I check. One of the cylinders is blowing some oil out the exhaus...

All sorted now the auto choke was sticking and keeping the arm on the carb from fully closing to the stops

Re: Manual fuel pump
Mike mine still struggles on hills even with the new pump, but I think I have engine issues as I'm blowing oil out of the exhaust so seems to be cylinder issues and will need the head off and checked. Speed picks up as long as I keep the speed up and change up gears as indicated on the speedo. It do...

Re: Engine running at very high revs
Tried disconnecting pump but still the same. Looked at the carb and the arm was off the stops. Auto choke stick and stopping arm from fully returning to stop. Took of auto choke and adjusted, now back to normal.
