Re: Cabin heat, 1.8T conversion, extra pump?
Well it was -5C this morning and had not run the van for a couple of weeks. Started up and let tickover for a few minutes until the temperature gauge was reading 70C (normally sits at 90C) tuned fan on and plenty of heat on 1 and 2 but slight cooling on 3. Left on idle (800 rpm) with no loss of heat...

Re: Cabin heat, 1.8T conversion, extra pump?
I looked back at my notes from 2013 when I decided to go 1.8T and there was a lot of discussion on the Samba about poor heater performance and many untried ideas. I selected the Davies Craig EBP15 as the best solution however since then the price has escalated to around £80.00. The good news is it ...

Re: Cabin heat, 1.8T conversion, extra pump?
I agree that the performance is compromised at idle in cold weather as although the pump is more than adequate the long pipe runs in parallel for the heater and radiator means the flow will take the easiest route and at low revs this is through the radiator. The donor vehicles have very short pipe ...

Re: 1.8 t at 50 degrees
Careful with that line as the original has a tiny orifice that joins the first section to the heatproof section. This is to damp the wastegate actuator response otherwise the boost cut will be quite savage. Mine was like slamming the brakes on at 4000 rpm. The good news is that the early management ...

Re: 1.8 t at 50 degrees
Used the same reservoir and charge cooler on mine. It coped easily with over 1 bar boost with inlet temperature only 15 degrees C above ambient in the summer. The high boost was caused by poor wastegate actuator response. Now reigned in to 0.5 bar which is much more comfortable. Check the section of...

Re: 1.8 t at 50 degrees
Hi Neil,
looking good! Have a look at the transverse engine intake manifold as it should reduce the height a fair bit. More plumbing though!
Regards Duncan.

The AGU/AEB 20v 1.8T engines are Euro 4 but I don't think that helps.

Re: What do I need?
Hi,
I run 7 x 16 et 37 on my syncro with plenty of clearance and checking your size with an online size calculator you should have 4.7mm more clearance than me inside and just over 20mm more on the outside. I have no pinch weld on the trailing arms and have 20mm clearance with 215 x 70 BFG tyres.
