Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

Good spot! The connections are in the best orientation and the OA length is less than the radiator so no problem with hose connections. The core depth is 24mm so should not kill the air flow and will clear the centre box section and the height is close to half of the existing core so you could fit 2...

0 392 022 002 and suffix 010 for the more powerful one fitted to the big Mercs. I have all the performance curves if you want to get really in depth.

Re: Best clutch for 2.1 / 1.8T

Hi Ben, the Sachs 2.1 clutch should be adequate for standard tune which is around 150 bhp and 210Nm Stage 1 chip for early engines will only give 180 bhp on the standard K03 turbo but the torque jumps to 350Nm. Later engines with the Ko3s turbo will make more power and torque. At 50 degrees you may ...

Christopher Schimke T3 Technique Feb. 2010 chart on pressure differentials. Air volume as you were planning is more useful for calculation purposes.

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

A quick look at that Jag matrix shows it has more than double the overall surface area of your Mocal unit. If you look back I did make an assumption on the increased performance using water/glycol. How much horsepower is the V8 capable of in comparison?

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

I rang Mocal lunchtime and spoke to their technical department. Nice people but they are worryingly non-technical ( maybe I was expecting too much). I hope you have better luck, in fact Serck may be a better bet.

Hi, Syncroandy found a neat solution with a Subaru air box and posted some pictures recently and Garyd used a Peugeot one on his AGG.

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

Ok the Mocal data is for engine oil and without data for water we can only make an educated guess at the increase in performance using water/glycol. Typical data suggests between 30% and over 100% increase in thermal performance depending on a huge number of factors so to complete the loop we could ...

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

Ian, a new calculation based on 12 psi boost and 185 l/s flow reduces the heat to be removed to 3.14 kw per 10 C temperature reduction. The Bosch 002 pump does indeed flow 0.33 l/s which is what was recommended and works against a reasonable pressure drop. I don't know what an ideal maximum charge t...

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

I was writing when you posted that. So we can now home in on the boost level and flow rate required and I think we still have to assume the compressor discharge temperature does not exceed 110C for a 21C ambient as we have no better data. So to recap if you can tell me the maximum boost and flow rat...

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

Right! First stab at what is required; I read through the data and as you found it is not specific enough to give a definitive solution. If we assume therefore at maximum rpm we have a flow of 190l/s at 2bar boost leaving at 105C then for every 10C you wish to cool this air you need to reject 3.5kw....

Re: The Superboxer, a new heart for the Silver Bullet

Ok Ian. This is my area of expertise . For step 1 if we can estimate the maximum air flow and the pressure increase through the supercharger and the starting air temperature we can calculate the heat produced. An allowance needs to be made for the compressor efficiency as this will add heat as well ...
