AAZ to TDI conversion
Hello all, Cutting a long story short I have the chance of a very cheap 1998 VW Passat 1.9 TDI 'red i' so am thinking of upgrading my current AAZ setup. My gearbox is a bit too low ratio at the moment so was considering a new box but at ~£500+ for an AAP i thought maybe the TDI with a flipped Passat...

Re: hi sil gone, not at all sure "inner" "outer" pics
I fitted a puka VW one on the drivers side with a lot of help from on here. Would be easier next time but was a hard job to do outside and lost a good deal of blood getting the old one off. Can be done as DIY but it is probably the hardest job I have done on my van. MM makes it look easy :ok due to ...

Headlight resistors
Hello, Can anyone tell me what the two banks of resistors are for that sit on the front cross member where the bottom of the light grill sits. The reason for the question is that i have just upgraded the headlights to square type and seem to remember reading that on some models for limited years the...

Re: How thick metal will I need to weld?
Not sure how thick the original panels are but used 1.0mm or 1.2mm for the repairs. I used the thicker sheet on the steps. Unless you are welding the chassis then only a low amp welder is needed. I have mine (160 Amp 230v Inverter based MIG) on nearly it's lowest setting most of the time.

Dont mind what type. Was thinking 90 amp. The bracket is the one with the spring not the tensioner.
Thanks for the response Andy

Re: a common newbie question..
If it only needs "a bit of welding", "some rust treatment" and a respray I wouldn't say that was a moment of weakness I would say that's a good buy

AAZ alternator
Hi folks, Does anyone have part numbers or poit me in the direction of a new alternator for my AAZ. I have been rebuilding the van which has stood for quite some time and need to replace the alternator, waterpump pulley and belt. I have thought that I may as well put a freewheeling pully on whilst I...

Re: Strange wiper problem
Changed the position of the mechanism on the motor to account for the motor only going round 360 degrees then stopping then going another 360 degrees not 180 forward then 180 back as i had originally thought. This sorted the problem. Many thankls for the help. Key points I have learned now: 1) motor...

Re: Strange wiper problem
Thanks for the tip and yes when I first found out I had a problem was when I saw the wipers going down the front of the van below the windscreen
Not too bad as I am doing a bit of a resto job so the van is getting painted anyway.

Re: Strange wiper problem
Thanks for the replys. Thinking more about it after Adrian said that the motor just goes round in a circle makes me think I have got the linkage out of sync. If i disconnect the linkage, let the motor turn until it stops then reconect the linkage I think that should do it. Will let you know if it wo...

Strange wiper problem
I have fitted a new wiper motor today and stripped the linkages to free up the wiper spindles as they were very stiff. I have put everything back as it was or so I think but have a problem. When the wipers are on the blades move throught their full range of movement ok but when I cancel the wipers t...
