Re: real mpg figures for T3's V T4's
Prices were a bit cheaper than home but kept going up all the time we were away. We used Google maps and an app 1-2-3 Fuel to find the cheapest diesel but the nearest supermarket was often the best. We completely avoided toll roads. They’re not usually much faster unless you’re bombing along and the...

Re: Fresh air blower replacement
There are a couple of helpful videos on YouTube showing how to do the job, one from GoWesty. As has been said there’s nothing that’s really too difficult about it. Just a pain that’s all. So if you get it done for you you’re not paying a mechanic for a job they alone have the special skills to do bu...

Re: Advice needed - new engine
Also, as I don’t think any one has said, it sounds like a blown head gasket. With it being as bad as it is it may well be that the cylinder head is distorted/ damaged. But that means when it’s stripped down it might just be the cylinder head needs replacing. And the block potentially could still be ...

Re: Advice needed - new engine
We had the same problem with our jx 1.6td so we had a 1z 1.9tdi fitted professionally and the gearbox uprated to go with it. It wasn’t a cheap option. We get excellent mpg much better than any petrol alternative and it goes faster than we would ever want it to go easily keeping up with motorway traf...

Re: real mpg figures for T3's V T4's
We kept a record of our fuel use over our recent 1900 mile trip to the south of France and back and we averaged just over 41mpg. We took our time and our top speed was only around 100kph but we averaged lower speeds than that as we hardly ever drove on motorways. We did a fair amount of mountain/ hi...

Re: Westfalia Hightop Owners, request for some interior pictures
I also found the online ekta parts catalogue totally indispensable - the relevant sections are under campmobil and T2 for your year: https://volkswagen.7zap.com/en/rdw/ Here you will find part numbers and the soze of screws and fittings etc. It’s also good for working out the order to fit things. An...

Re: Wiring up Victron charger
Thanks for taking the time to do all that Robsey. I’ve got a copy of the manual and I’ve become fairly familiar with its contents. We’re travelling at the moment and I’m not going to swap things around now but when we get home I’ll try a few things out and maybe post the results. As you said the cha...

Wiring up Victron charger
I replaced the original Buzzing Black Box charger in our Westfalia with a Victron IP22 12/15/3 using the exact same connections to the starter and leisure battery but im wondering if this was the best way to do it. As the condition and charge of the leisure battery is my primary concern and the Vict...

Ha, ha, how did you know! Just preparing myself to go out and contort myself into the crazy positions required to replace the tap on our Westy.
Avenue Paints might be a better source of advice than me also? Or confirm my tentative thoughts?

Re: Rustoleum
That would make sense - but just asking the question: isn't the reason you can't use other paints to paint over Rustoleum is because of the higher volatility carriers they use - like xylene, tuolene, acetone etc.? Because they can potentially break down, soften and even lift the Rustoleum? So Rustol...

Re: Rustoleum
I’m happy to be corrected but isn’t the thing with Rustoleum that because it’s basically a coach paint you can’t stick anything else on top of it? As I recall you either have to remove it by sanding or use a specialised barrier coating? So while It’s OK to paint Rustoleum on top of a cellulose, acry...

Re: New fridge for Westfalia
This is the wiring diagram for the Westfalia’s camping equipment. It’s a little bit difficult to trace the paths from it but they’re all there.
