Re: Digifant lump replace with Digijet

The main mechanical difference MV > DJ is the compression ratio. I suspect this might be show-stopper as far as swapping the 'lump' over and keeping all else the same, but others far better informed than myself on such things will be along soon I hope. Personally I would swap over the whole engine-...

Re: Digifant lump replace with Digijet

They're not both DJs, it's digifant so is originally an MV or SS. The exhaust will need to be swapped as it needs the lambda probe for digifant to work. Copy the timing mark off the MV pulley, mark it on the DJ pulley (or swap pulleys), and time it the same. You'll effectively have a high compressi...

Digifant lump replace with Digijet

Hi I have a 2.1 Digifant in my 1990 Syncro. The engine has done 150K miles and whilst it runs well it is fairly tired. I have been offered a 2.1 Digijet engine, from a standard 2WD Van it was a recon unit and only done 800 miles. Anyone know if I could swap the main lump over. Then moving the parts ...

Re: Replacing Outer Rear Trailing Arm Mount aka jacking point

Well looks like I have the result of measuring 2 original brackets and working out the average dimension to get machined: http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx15/paragdide2009/syncro%20rear%20suspension%20restoration/dims.png Bit more measuring on the van required of the angle of the old bracket the...

Re: Replacing Outer Rear Trailing Arm Mount aka jacking point

I have measured the replacement part accurately now. My thinking is to get them machined to the measurement they should be. http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx15/paragdide2009/syncro%20rear%20suspension%20restoration/20190130_221320.jpg http://i737.photobucket.com/albums/xx15/paragdide2009/syncro%...

Re: Replacing Outer Rear Trailing Arm Mount aka jacking point

Anybody perhaps have any access to original drawings part numbers are 251 803 198 for the rear right and 251 803 197 for the rear left.

Re: Replacing Outer Rear Trailing Arm Mount aka jacking point

Do you know how straight your rear wheel was sitting initially?

Roger that is a good question! However the suspension mount was fairly well attached to the horizontal chassis member so my feeling is that it would have been pretty much straight before I started.

Replacing Outer Rear Trailing Arm Mount aka jacking point

Hi, I am in the process of replacing the Outer Trailing Arm Mounts on my 14" Syncro. They were both quite badly rusted and not held onto the van by much so I bought 2 new replacements from Brickwerks. Before cutting the old one off I made a jig and welded it to the van. Also I fabricated the re...

Re: Camper runs for a bit then stalls

Thanks all for the replies. I will help them check the coil and electrics. I like the idea of the fuel filters to check for flow as well.

We are in Brighton East Sussex anyone suggest a good T25 Aircooled specialist here?

I will update shortly.

Re: Strange noise from Back as The wheels on the bus goes round

Had exactly the same sounding thing on my syncro. As soon as it is making the noise chock it up on the jack and rotate the wheel by had. Mine was intermittent then noisy as heck. Problem was in the brake drum. The bit that holds the light weight retaining spring had broken an eventually a piece of m...

Camper runs for a bit then stalls

Hi, A good friend of mine has a 1983 Devon Camper, that has been in a VW garage since November with the same or similar problem. They bought in the summer to go camping and as a daily runner for light use. Date of registration: 01/03/1982 CC: 1970 Fuel: Petrol Twin carburettors. The initial problems...

Re: AAZ Turbo Oil Leak

That's ok there then...bit odd its pumping oil up the dipstick tho.. Replaced the PCV valve with an original from VW, just for good measure and taking no chances. Here are some pics - note the cable-tie has been replaced with a proper clip, this was from my carpark fix ;-) http://dl.dropboxusercont...

Re: AAZ Turbo Oil Leak

Erm...summits not right here..you haven't put the breather pipe onto the inlet manifold (JX) blow off valve have you? I think some pics might help..never known the UFO puck to fail ever! Also if your engine is pushing ou oil at such a rate you need to disconnect any conection to the inlet as your i...

Re: AAZ Turbo Oil Leak

Update. That PCV valve really does a lot me thinks. Unless it is busted, I think it is doing its job. The oil was from the dipstick. Made a right royal mess. Having a job where you can do car mechanics at lunch time helps. Cleaned up the oil as best I could; reconnected the PCV to inlet breather pip...

Re: AAZ Turbo Oil Leak

BAD NEWS    Ran it to work this morning with the bottom end of the breather hose from the PCV into a clear plastic bottle and the connection on the inlet manifold tube blocked up. It had run like this for at least an hour on the drive!! When I got to work oil is gushing, yes gushing f...
