Re: Devon poptop fabric degradation
Thanks for feeding back your similar experience.
Did your pop canvas fail completely or did the look of it drive you to replace it, presumably at quite a cost?
Good to know it can be (hopefully) replaced at some point.

Re: Devon poptop fabric degradation
Thanks for comments, appreciated. We've tried cleaning with all sorts of fluids, with no luck, so would be surprised if it's mould; however it's slightly tacky to the touch, and we notice the problem area is getting larger each time we use the van. Could that be a mould thing?? Might get some mould ...

Re: Devon poptop fabric degradation
Thanks, but it appears the fabric is degrading in some way, and I can't think of the last time we parked or camped under a tree

Devon poptop fabric degradation
We've noticed our Devon poptop fabric has suddenly and significantly deteriorated recently. To the untrained eye it looks like rust contamination, but there's no metal (and certainly no rusty metal) anywhere near. It feels slightly tacky to the touch; inside looks completely normal. We've tried clea...

Softening fuel hoses
We've heard it all before - regularly check/replace your fuel hoses to avoid leaks (& fires!), particularly as modern fuels appear more aggressive to our ageing fuel systems. As I'd replaced EVERY petrol hose last year (Gates brand) during the engine change, I must be in the clear, right? But ha...

What's this then?
We've had our van for 19 years (1.9 DF, Devon); it came with an Elsan bucket loo (which I never fancied using, so it went straight in the loft). Recent loft tidy meant the Elsan loo finally got looked at; it had a bag with a few random clips - does anyone recognise them? Is it to do with the loo? Or...

Re: Flashing Coolant LED
Hi Smiffo - watching your post with interest, thanks for posting (although I have a non-working coolant level warning, despite several, careful checks throughout the circuit and a new ‘relay’ 42; everything else on our dash is good). Any progress on your investigation that you are able to report? Th...

Re: Header Tank level
Very interesting post by icosahedron regarding header and expansion tank 'mode'. Appreciate your detailed post. We've just adapted our 1.9 DF cooling system (metal cap on expansion tank) to the DG type new tank (blue cap), with revised pipe work being necessary, due to absence of new tanks for DF's....

Rear suspension wishbones: a cautionary tale
Despite regular spannering and checking of our van, the offside rear suspension wishbone was suddenly found to be in urgent need of replacement. Whilst it's always good to replace suspension and brake components in pairs, sometimes there isn't always time to do it immediately, but I also gave the ne...

Re: Faulty Speedo Cable Question
I have fixed my speedo at last! There seems to be two issues when fitting a new speedo cable. Firstly. if there are any small curves or bends in the routing under the van, it makes the cable click as it turns, almost like it jumps 90 degrees at a time as it rotates. I found the best route was down ...

Re: Overtaking mirror recommendations
Thanks again all.
Opted for same adhesive mirrors as Icosahedron and fixed them to the wing mirrors, as we were heading out on a trip. Seems to work fine.
Will keep an eye out for Landrover mirror options.
Appreciate all responses, thanks.

Re: Faulty Speedo Cable Question
Looking at this thread with interest. I thought I'd finally fix the noisy speedo cable and speedo bounce by replacing the cable; despite carefully routing the new one etc, it's now 3 times as noisy! I can see in the link to an old thread the good idea of jacking up the nsf wheel and spinning it to s...
