Re: Automatic gearbox help
Hi Phil Hope your well and managed to sort out the problem with your autobox. I wonder if you actually got to the bottom of the fault as my 86 1.9dg auto wbx seems to have the same issue. It’s ok around town as it doesn’t need top gear but as soon as you take it on motorway it’s clearly not going in...

LPG and engine deteriation caused failed big end bearing
Unfortunatly i broke down last week at the side of the motorway. With a overheating engine and regular rapid rattling as i attempted to accelorate. After a little investigation it appeared one of the spark plugs and been damaged due to what i think was the conrod, the clanking is likely the play in ...

Following on from post titled "Starter spins but doesnt engage" Help needed with a T25 1988 autobox (010), I’ve had the gearbox rebuilt using the std VW overhaul kit and it has worked after overhaul but I seem now to be in the situation where the starter motor is ripping the ring gear off ...

Re: Starter spins but doesn't engage. Grinding noise!
We have sourced an replacent working torque converter. And we will be replacing the old one ourselves.
Any advice on what to look out for to prevent the same thing happening to to this torque converter, which seemed to destroy the last ring gear not once but twice!

Re: Starter spins but doesn't engage. Grinding noise!
Yeah so as you suggested! We pulled on the fan belt, and turned the engine. The van wanted to start. On the second attempt, although it started this time, unfortunatly for us it seemed to tear the ringgear of the transmission. Clearly the welding job didnt stand up to the job. We will have the trans...

Re: Starter spins but doesn't engage. Grinding noise!
Thanks for the reply! I will give this ago thanks, if this were the case what would be the solution? Only one month back the ring gear was looked at by an auto gearbox machanic, he did weld some of the teeth as he said some had been ripped off or maybe the ring gear had been dropped! The van hasnt b...
