Merlin Cat wrote::D Also stayed at a lovely situation site (tho basic loos etc) over the bridge at La Rochelle.

I remember a very pleasant stay 12+ years ago on our first ever campervanning trip to France - it was "over the bridge" too, on the municipal site on Rue des Remparts at St Martin de Re.

Re: Calais - La Rochelle

I expect lots of us have passed that way but the only time I've overnighted en route was on an unexciting Brit-owned site in winter. Are you avoiding tolls? If so, a (Google) search on "camping evreux" will surely find something in the right area. Try "camping alencon" if you're ...

Re: M6 Toll - avoid!

On our journeys to and from Dover we do use the toll by choice, but oddly enough both our previous TomTom and our current Garmin satnavs reliably try to send us the wrong (non-paying) way on the junctions' approaches when travelling both north and south.

Re: The Vendée Pool

The Vendee can be a long drive (remember doing a 440 mile trek a few years ago) I always wondered what you did for a living but I guess its not normally building swimming pools  On this trip there were several times each day when I was pleased to have virtually no responsibility for the swimmi...

Re: Morocco: More Dunes and the Atlas

PM me your email address and I'll send you my list of All Year (AY) campsites for the two main routes across France and Spain.
(I don't have a list of AY sites in Morocco, but got the strong impression that all of their sites are AY ones).

The Vendée Pool

The Vendée Pool This was definitely the daftest campervan trip I've ever done: Two long days of driving | Ten long days of labouring on a swimming pool construction | Two long days of driving. When you get there, select "Slideshow", then F11 and select "Show Info". Here it is: ht...

The real view (as opposed to the photographic view), made me feel more than a little dizzy / disorientated at the time. Really.

Re: Three Nights in Argyll

Thanx, dudes. Now that I'm getting to feel a little more familiar with quite a few of the towns, villages and other locations I am enjoying enormously a recent purchase (£1.99 in a chazzer shop), Neil Munro's 'Para Handy', a large collection of short stories published in 1931 about life on and aroun...

Re: Cheap Ferry?

Convenience counts for quite a bit. It counts for a lot, I reckon, as does time. Nobody takes a holiday in order to spend too much of it whirring along motorways, but it's often an inevitable element in reaching far off (and long dreamed of), destinations. Noomo, my wife hasnt mentioned things sink...

Re: Three Nights in Argyll

Thank you, folks. I'm lucky to have been there at the time, and lucky to be sharing a little of how it was.

Funny old concept, luck, isn't it. Think about it too hard and you might go bonkers, religious, or both. :)

Re: Cheap Ferry?

Well, point taken, of course, but I'm glad I did the sums. Ours is an oddly shaped country and I note that the fastest road route from Penzance to Dover is longer than the fastest route from Lancaster to Dover. If I lived in, or to the west of Hampshire, say, and was travelling to Brittany, I might ...
