Alternator woes
Howdy all, I'm having continuing problems with my alternator on my Westy. First up, the belt was slipping pretty bad, so got a new one put on a month ago back home as there wasnt enough room to tension it. Van has PAS, do it's not an easy job to change - paid 80 squid to get it done! The other day, ...

Split Charge Relay to BBB connection
Just wondering what this connection is for on the Westy's? Does it tell the BBB not to charge the LB when the circuit is closed / engine running?
Can't seem to get my BBB working. Power in is ok, both fuses are fine. It gets a bit warm, but i'm not getting any output voltage.
Thanks!

Re: Overheating issues
Thanks for that. I gess it was just water escaping under pressure as it got hot. no idea where i'll get a replacement out here. How safe is it to drive with it with a slight crack?

Re: Overheating issues
ive been doing some testing this morning. There doesnt seem to be any air locks in the system, however the temp guage, as it always does, stays pretty low - under a 1/4. I revved it on 3k for a couple of minutes, and it got up to about 2/3's. The van was running for a good 30 mins or more. At no sta...

Yep, fan came on and continued after I turned the motor off. Did you mean dalek cap? Will steam escape from there?

Overheating issues
Howdy all, So today, my westy and I tried to tackle the alps. Unsuccessfully unfortunately. I've got a 1.6td, which generally runs pretty well. I've only had it about a month. It's fully laden as we're travelling, with myself and the other half. Temp gauge generally sits quite low, just above the fi...

Re: Westy BBB not working
Thanks a million Martin. Found a relay, and it began charging. Looks like the leisure battery is dead though as it isn't holding charge. I'll have to get a newie. There doesn't seem to be any charge when i'm plugged in either. What's the best way to test this? I'm assuming the battery is not going t...

Re: Westy BBB not working
Thanks for the responses. I do think the battery has had its day. There was a lot of corrosion on the positive terminal, and a couple of the wires did look a little melted. I put new connectors on two of the wires the other day. I might be better off just buying a new battery. I checked the glass fu...

Westy BBB not working
Morning all, I've got a '90 California, and the BBB doesn't seem to be working. I've only had it for a short period, so not sure how long the problem's been around. Basically, the leisure batt is sitting on about 10v, regardless of whether the vans running or not. When the engine is running, or it's...

Re: Head Gasket issues
Thanks for the advice. It's so tempting to buy on unseen! I almost did it the other week as it was a great price for a Westfalia TD. Whoever bought it is now renting it out on Gumtree! There's rarely anything local, so I'm forced to scour the countryside looking for one. The right one will come alon...

Re: Head Gasket issues
I'd consider an LPG conversion... already looked at one that someone was trying to flog, and it had a blown head gasket. I'm a bit wary of the petrol motors, plus we'll be using it for a trip around Europe, so LPG might not be as widely available in some places. But if there was one with a rebuild, ...

Struggling to find something suitable to be honest. Turbo diesel hightop for a reasonable price, in good condition. they're few and far between!

Re: Head Gasket issues
I thought the top up tank was the expansion tank, as that's where the water flows into after it's expanded by heat?
Either way, header tank empty, top up tank up to the line with bubbles... i might see if the owner can check it out for me.
