Re: Rear swing arm bolts
Normally try to buy local, often cheaper and good quality. Didn't have the bolts though. Ordered from Brickwerks. Got a really good little auto factor up the road. Got TRW guaranteed wheel cylinders, shoes and a mintex fitting kit next day at good price. Do good CV boots as well. Not those plastic t...

Re: Changing the glow plugs in 1.6TD JX?
Its fine to remove the injector pipes to get access. Keep them clean and inspect for damage. Keep dirt away from the open end of the injectorrs as well. When you put them back fit them and leave them finger tight and crank a bit till fuel is seen on each and nip up. The system self bleeds but do con...

Rear swing arm bolts
Hi all, as part of my on going resto it looks like I'm doing the rear outer suspension mounts.
Does anyone know what dimensions and hardness the bolts are before I cut them off? Also anywhere that may have them in stock. Cool Air sell a kit thats out of stock.

Re: Replacement Panel Quality and Fit?
Good to know thanks, yes the shorter hose on the Clarke does mean a bit of shuffling about.
Dont suppose you have seen the spot weld (plugging timer) on the portamigs? Was wandering if its worth specing or just do what we always do, count 1..2!

Re: Replacement Panel Quality and Fit?
Thanks guys, Max, I appreciate what you're saying. In the prefect world I'd have gone about this wheel arch in a different way but I am making sure all that I have done is strong, sealed and done in such a way that future repairs will not be any more difficult. I have to work within my contraints an...

Re: Replacement Panel Quality and Fit?
Cheers Max doing my best under the circumstances, those welds will be flatted back before the jobs done :) Yes agreed with the fabrication, actually getting the welder on it is quite a small proportion of the job. I agree it may not be best but to learn on your van, in my case nessesity was the driv...

Re: Replacement Panel Quality and Fit?
When I see threads like this I'm inspired to get myself on a welding course at the local engineering college! Can't take the place of an experienced professional I know, but nonetheless it might make owning my van long term a little less daunting at times?! Hmmmmmm, goes off to google courses..... ...

Yes would have been better really to do that really. Will keep posting the pics up.
If I burn the welder for more than a second or so it'll be through some of those panels! Will pickup a nice MIG set one day

Re: Replacement Panel Quality and Fit?
The plan is a part resto and tidy up, its a tatty old bus (AKA The Time Vampire) with plenty of rust to sort, but I have pretty limited resources working on the driveway. Work is not a patch on what your going but that's the quality I'm aiming for at some point..... Got stuck in working on the rear ...

Replacement Panel Quality and Fit?
I'm pretty new to T3's just a year now but have had Bays for years and as such done pelnly of welding and panel fitting. I've recently started to pull the rear arch and corner off my camper to sort the arch and more serious rot behind, all coming together well but what about the quality of the repla...

Re: Crunchy 3rd gear
Common fault on 5 speed boxes, I had one like it. As above Aidan is the guy who knows.
You should also try checking the level of oil and draining refilling with the correct grade. Think I used Comma SX75W-90 GL-4 Semi-Synth.
Draining will give you the chance to see how much swarf is in your box.

Re: New JX TD Cylinder Heads
Oldiebut Goodie, Thanks so much for pulling your motor down, I have got a trade price on a new head now so I'm going to go with that now, I drained down the cooling system 3 times last year for various reasons and just want to nail the last of the issues! Costing me a fortune in antifreeze... Many t...

Re: New JX TD Cylinder Heads
Hi there, Miss-firing badly when hot, deep cracks between valves(nothing fallen out yet...), oil in the water and a good case of overheating! No gasket problems and had cooling system refresh and oil cooler last year so Im needing to sort the head out. Metalmick8y offered me a head with the usual va...

New JX TD Cylinder Heads
Hi all, Have just been chatting with Metalmick8y, he was saying he was dealing with someone on here who managed to buy a new JX cylinder head complete for around the £200 mark, So far I have managed to find a bare head (inc guides and seats) for a bit more than this. I'd be very if the person who fo...
