Alternator securing bolt
Hello there, it's not quite electrical but not sure where else to put it! I was trying to tighten the aux belt the other day, but couldn't get the bolt that attaches to the slide bracket to tighten up very well. On inspection the square part of the head isn't particularly square any more, the corner...

12v socket wiring
My van came with a 12v cigarette lighter already drilled into the dash, but on closer inspection it isn't connected anywhere. Which terminal on the fuse block would be best to wire it in to?
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Pierburg 2e3 problems
Glad you got it sorted and thanks for reporting back on the cause(s) :ok I am a bit puzzled by one thing though, the Pieburg is supposed to have a fine metal gauze filter built into it's inlet pipe and that should have stopped crud getting into the carb. If it was missing (as one may presume it was...

Re: Pierburg 2e3 problems
Hello again, it's been a few weeks but just thought I'd bring you up to date with the Pierburg saga. The carb came back from Bromyard in great condition and I refitted it and all was well... for a few minutes. The same problems reappeared with uneven, hunting idle and drinking fuel like it was going...

Re: vacuum advance - how much movement to expect?
Kev, thanks for your advice once again, maybe you could help me clear up once and for all where I need to be with the timing! Haynes says to set the timing so that at idle, with the vac advance disconnected, the V notch on the rear of the pulley is in line with the crankcase split. The round mark on...

Re: vacuum advance - how much movement to expect?
Hi all, just to bring you up to date, spent the afternoon working on the van yesterday and made some good progress. Started with a compression test and got the following results: cylinder 1 - 161psi cylinder 2 - 160psi cylinder 3 - 170psi cylinder 4 - 160psi So, all looking good there as far as I ca...

Re: vacuum advance - how much movement to expect?
One more Q whilst it's on my mind - would anyone like to weigh in with opinions on spark plug choice? The van is currently running Bosch WR78's...

Re: vacuum advance - how much movement to expect?
Hi 8ball So cleaned up the dizzy and replaced the vac advance (as well as cleaning up the earth connections on the engine and resetting the timing) and it's running much better. I got my vac advance from http://www.simonbbc.com/ignition-spares ... vance-unit. Thanks for the info James, glad to hear...

Re: vacuum advance - how much movement to expect?
Okay then, well there's definite movement in the arm, so I guess it's fair to say the vac unit is working as it should. Quick check on Amazon brought these two up: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-52616-Xe ... 976&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gunson-G4113-Ti ... 976&sr=8-3 they look identica...

Re: vacuum advance - how much movement to expect?
like I say lets make sure the timing is correct Okay then, I'll order a timing light tonight - any recommendations, or are they all much of a muchness? I don't mind spending a little bit more to get something that's going to do the job right, but don't necessarily want something OTT that I'm rarely...

Re: vacuum advance - how much movement to expect?
So when your foot is hard down is the dizzy just relying on the centrifugal force? I'm a bit confused! No popping or backfiring or overrun. Don't forget that 1 degree at the dizzy is 2 at the flywheel So 20 degrees advance is only a movement of 10 deg at the dizz Okay, well to my mind that seems to ...

Re: vacuum advance - how much movement to expect?
Thanks for all the replies and advice so far. With all my waffle in the OP, I think my original question got a little bit lost. namely, how much movement of the control arm should you expect to see when sucking really hard on the inlet on a fully working vac advance unit? With mine the movement is p...

Re: vacuum advance - how much movement to expect?
Has it got both vac adv and retard? Not sure if the DGs had that. The late aircooleds did NB. Do not swing the dizzy if you haven't scribed a good clear mark between the two faces. Just the one inlet, so presume that's vacuum advance only? e exactly the same symptoms on a Solex carb. Its been clean...

vacuum advance - how much movement to expect?
Hello again, Following on from my last thread about Pierburg 2e3 problems, I received my carb back from Bromyard in brilliant nick and reinstalled. Initial results were promising, after setting the choke with a press/release of the accelerator, started first turn of the key, at a high idle, then rev...

Re: Pierburg 2e3 problems
Impressive list of faults! Yep, that's what I thought too. Some things best left to the professionals. It's not a cheap service but you get what you pay for. The carb is reset to factory tolerances, and if this allows me to get the van back on the road and ready to go for easter, and to not have to...
