Re: Aircooled thermostat/heater control flaps, position?

Yes it is in the right position.
You need to check that when the flap (for cylinder 1 +2) is fully open at 90 degrees, the flap for 3+4 is fully down over the oil cooler. If its not then slightly bend to fit. I bet you dont have to do it though.
Good luck

Re: Oil leak 2ltr CU engine

If its not the oil pressure switch, you can get to the oil cooler with the engine in situ. You need to remove the rear tin and fan pipe, then the cooling fan and fan housing. If I remember correctly, the top left tin needs to come out as well. The worst bit is undoing seized and hard to reach tin sc...

Re: Popping back through carb (Dellorto)

I could be wrong but I think that the needle and seat valve refers to the valve which opens and closes when the floats go up and down. They are easy to replace. I agree that logic dictates that if this was a float problem, both 3 and 4 would be affected. Mind you, iirc, there is a little o ring on t...

Re: Popping back through carb (Dellorto)

Long before you condemn your carb, there are many factors that need to be discounted. Are you certain that there is no air leak on the servo fitting, carb to manifold gasket, or manifold to head gasket? This is far more likely than the dreaded (but rare) dellorto 'drip'. Are the mixture screws for n...

Re: Engine barrels - oil leak?

5 or 6k on a recon engine? could well be head nuts shaking loose. The four lower head bolts are under each rocker cover and easy to get to with the engine in situ. The upper ones are underneath the cylinder tinware and you can remove these with the engine in if you remove the carbs manifolds etc. It...

Re: Engine barrels - oil leak?

Quite a mystery. I cant see that its the oil cooler seals leaking as its positioned at the back of number 4 cylinder and oil would drip around the area of the oil filter. I would have bet it was the push rod oil seals but if you have changed and checked them then they can be ruled out. I'd still che...

Re: 2.0 CU Fuel Pump Replacement

Hi.
If it turns out to be the fuel pump, Heritage has started to sell them.

When the pump is off, also check that the fuel pump rod hasn't worn out of spec. The dimension should be in the manual.
Good luck

Re: help replacing small crank oil seal PLEASE!

You're nearly there. From the pic it looks like the center nut and big thick washer have been removed so the only thing holding the fan bracket on is the fact that its on tight to the crank. Try screwing the fan back on with the three screws then pull and wiggle it like mad. the housing is located o...

Re: Rocker cover gasket

You might get away with it if you havent used silicone sealant to fit em. I've re-used them plenty of times but it would be a good idea to order more and carry a set in the van for an easy and quick future roadside repair. Incidentally, I've long since given up on the just kampers push rod tube gask...

Just read your post again and iirc the 914 engines had points so you'd be better of with your cu dizzy.

Re: Help - will this engine fit my van?

Hi, The engine would go in easy, but there would need to be a lot of buggering about with ancillaries. The crancase is almost identical to the 2.0 cu engine but the brether is different on top and the dip stick would have to be relocated. The 914 heads have bigger valves are renouned for cracking, a...

Yes I know.
I took the word of James Calvert and Lee from LA Performance. They are both proffesional engine builders and do a lot of type 4 motors. They both told me that one manifold was sufficient.
Thats good enough for me.

Throttle Cable.

My local tame welder has excelled himself by managing to melt the end of the throttle conduit while welding new steps on my van. Not the end of the world, I just need to replace the conduit, but my question is how is the conduit fixed at the pedal end? Looking at the smouldering remains of mine, the...
