North Yorkshire garage / howling sound
Hi all, Does anyone have a VW garage recommendation for North Yorkshire please? Ideally Wetherby-Thirsk-Ripon area. We travelled up yesterday and the van started making a horrible howling soun at speeds of 30mph and above. It could be coming from the front, but not sure. Slight play in wheel bearing...

Engine lid insulation
Hi, The engine lid on my van is lined with some kind of fibre, which is retained with thin plastic and wire. I guess it's there to protect against fire, but I'm not sure. With time. the plastic has deterioriated and the fibre now falls down so it's probably resting on the engine - bad news for an Ai...

Well spotted - I just didn't see it with the contrast! I've been able to get and turn the adjuster this morning. Thanks folks.

Re: Drum brake adjuster is not visible
Thanks for the reply. I've not had the drum off yet - currently soaking the assembly.
I'm also trying to suss out if I will need to remove the hub nut to get the drum off.. Any advice would be appreciated as Haynes is not helping much today!

Drum brake adjuster is not visible
Hi, I'm working on the rear drum brakes (1980 T25) and wanting to loosen off the shoes. When I look through the inspection hole I can see the shoe/pad but no adjuster! The inspection hole is in a different place to that in the Haynes manual. Photo from above the drum shows the inspection hole at abo...

Re: T3 Aircooled oil change question
Hi,
I clean the screen and gaskets every two or three oil changes. I've been running an a/c 2 litre for many years and all seems well with this approach.

Re: Timing
Hi Billy,
The best I can do is give you the Haynes numbers for a conventional breaker points systems: 7.5º BTDC at 800-950 rpm.
I have the electronic ignition system on the CU engine and have got good running from setting to the Haynes spec. (4-6° ATDC).
Have you still got the Solex carbs?
Mateo

Re: Fitting a roof box to a tin top
Thanks guys,
I'm in touch with Brickwerks to find the dimensions, then I'll do some detective work, as you say ZsZ, perhaps too wide.
Bat, looks like you've got plenty of options with your rack set-up, nice!

Fitting a roof box to a tin top
Hi folks,
Does anyone have a recommendation for fitting a roof box? I was looking at these custom made bars from Brickwerks: roof bar
Has anyone fitted them? Are they compatible with Thule or Halford boxes does anyone know?

Re: leisure battery for T25 pop top 1984
Hi,
It's no problem to find one that will fit - You'll want one 175mm high or less, but check and measure your space obviously. I've used Alpha Batteries over the years; massive range and good service: https://www.alpha-batteries.co.uk/
You'll find one for sure,
Matteo

Tin tops are the way to go - then there's no hiding for the rust (OK I'm biased!)

Re: Are JustKamper swivel seat bases any good?
I fitted one to the passenger side about 7 years ago. It's a good solid base and swivels easily so I would recommend it. Two things to note: 1) I needed to drill a couple of holes to help with mounting - otherwise strightforward. 2) The plate will overhang the battery box behind the seat! I took the...

I admire your perseverance Rollercoaster!
These problems are often require a slow process of elimination, so if this isn't the final fix at least you're a step closer.

Re: Engine whoosh - with audio
Hi Robsey, Thanks for your reply. I have to confess in all my years of running this van I've not checked the valves. As they are of the self-adjusting hydraulic tappet type I'd always assummed I didn't need to check them. So now you've said that I'll have a look and see if they are at least free and...
