Re: Clutch reality check needed! HELP!
THanks Gents, I'll have to be brief cos we need to set off soon (in the stupid car). Cheers Aidan for the advice I'll bear the other items in mind when it comes to booking it in, and CJH - no judder, just your classic revs rising as you hit the torquey bit of the engine range, but no acceleration. W...

Clutch reality check needed! HELP!
I posted a couple of weeks ago when I changed the gearbox oil on my '86 1.6TD Westfalia and it came out all seperated - thanks to everyone who commented on it. Now we are supposed to be going to the Green Man Festival in Wales tomorrow (100 miles or so) and today the clutch is slipping in 3rd and 4t...

Is this normal for old gearbox oil?
I drained and refilled my gearbox last night (4 speed JX 1.6TD) and this is what came out. Nasty

Re: Zero valve clearance - what do I do? (PICS)
Hello again,
Thanks for those pics Martin. I haven't had time to take the cam cover off yet but would the bulge of an oil gallery between injectors 1 & 2 tell me it's a hydraulic head? I've read they need more oil supply than the manual valve type.

I'll have a proper look at it tomorrow and see what's going on in there.

Re: Zero valve clearance - what do I do? (PICS)
Hello Mr Baxter, that would make sense of what the mechanics told me then (it being hydraulic and that). I'll check.

Re: Zero valve clearance - what do I do? (PICS)
Thanks Martin, I found that the garage I asked to do a full service were reluctant to do valve clearances, first they tried telling me it had hydraulic valves, then they said 'it's running fine so just don't worry about it'. I'm not sure why they can't be bothered. Anyway I like to get to know my en...

Zero valve clearance - what do I do? (PICS)
First off, greetings to all here - this is my first post but I've been taking advantage of all the info here for the last year or so. Brilliant resource and I hope to be able to contribute something myself as time goes on. For now though can I just tap in to your brains for some advice on my valve c...
