Re: lower ball joint interference fit
Thanks both. The James Akers video shows the ball joint dropping into position - up to the splines. This is the Engineering company's experience of fitting similar ball joints but to other vehicles. Also, interesting that the Meyle units appear over large - the make of mine is Meyle. Anyone else exp...

lower ball joint interference fit
Hi, I bought a pair of lower ball joints a while back and have just asked a local engineering company to press them in for me. They've questioned whether they are correct as the leading edge has a 10 thou interference fit and with the splines the interference fit would be about 20 thou. They have su...

Re: Early gear selector mechanism
Looks like someone has already produced a 3D sketch for the part: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2895653
In the write up he suggests his research confirmed it should be 3.15mm thick.

Re: Early gear selector mechanism
I don't have a file but it's a very simple part - I'll produce a 3D sketch and upload to Thingiverse once I've worked out what thickness it should be. I'll update this post when done.

Re: Early gear selector mechanism
Thanks Aidan, one of the posts has a useful picture which shows the part. It looks to be a maximum of 3mm thick - may be less. I'll experiment with different thickness material - 3mm, 2mm.

Re: Early gear selector mechanism
Thanks, not sure ABS is tough enough. I have a tougher material than ABS that I could use to print the part, but think Nylon would be the best material. Nylon is difficult to print as it warps. Again, I need to know how thick the part should be. But thanks for the suggestion:)

Early gear selector mechanism
Hi, On my 81 van the stop buffer (251 711 133B) has gone (probably years ago). These are nolonger available, so I was going to make one from nylon sheet material. Does anyone know how thick the buffer should be (excluding the 3 mounting pins? For reference the buffer mounts on the side of the housin...

Don't know if you've noticed but it looks like you're missing your engine too [emoji57]

Tried the m-sticker decoder provided by David and it was spot on.

Re: Help with westfalia rear badges
Hi,
I have a 1981 Westfalia Joker. There is no circular VW badge on the back, but it has a badge with "Volkswagen" on the left and a "camping" badge on the right.

Re: 1980 Westfalia cab seat covers
Hi, I bought Van Dyke seat covers and material for the rock and roll seat from Gunzl. Very good quality but expensive (and i bought it before the pound lost value)! They do other materials too: https://www.vwbusshop.de/epages/GuenzlClassicParts.mobile/en_GB/?ViewAction=MobileSF-DetailFacetedSearchPr...

Re: Painting Transporter badge?
Just an idea (never tried it), what if you sprayed the whole thing silver, then apply a thin layer of vaseline to the letters, and then spray with black. The black paint should just wipe off the letter faces

Re: Onboard computer for VW T3 and earlier
@bobby-gg I'm impressed by the display in the spare switch blank - where did you source the display from? I'm also developing a computer powered replacement for the electronic choke on my 2l Aircooled engine. A byproduct of the project will be a cylinder head temperature monitor - although this may...

Re: Rear crossmember/ valance
On an air-cooled van the heating system intake is connected by a flexible hose to the oval aperture on the inside of the rear valance (within the engine bay). This is then connected to all the holes on the outside. I guess the idea being it wouldn't suck in fumes from the engine/ exhaust. Although, ...
