Sounds like a worthwhile trip. I have one of their 'off the shelf' engines in my van; one year on, all good.

Re: 1.6 JX engine enhancments
Make sure the diaphragm on the LDA wastegate is working - it makes a huge difference going up hills. WHS Broken LDA = no increase in fueling on boost. Mine was shot and replacing it made a dramatic change to how it drives. The JX should be fine on hills; perhaps a bit slow but not painfully so. For...

Re: Fitting awning with figure of eight
I fit mine with a figure of 8 clamp; just had to open up one side slightly using a carefully set table saw so it fits over the plastic trim on the gutter.

Re: westy "fridge on gas" light on when gas not on
As far as i know the little green light senses if the flame is lit and not what function the switches positioned. So just check the flame is not lit through the little window as changing the switches does not turn off the gas this has to be done at the twist valve in the cupboard if that makes sens...

Re: Help me diagnose this coolant issue (please!!!)
OK, so just had it looked at; 'sniff' test proved negative but we cannot think of any other reason for this happening. The mechanic said that if i hadn't run through with him everything that had been checked so far, he would start off by replacing the thermostat but as the rad is getting hot I'm sur...

Re: Help me diagnose this coolant issue (please!!!)
Thanks all for the info, I'll try the sniff test from a good garage; the last thing I need is for it to fail at an an inconvenient moment... If it were you, would you go down the route of replacing the gasket or just throw in an Elite recon lump? The engine seems ok but it's got 190,000 Kms on the c...

Re: Help me diagnose this coolant issue (please!!!)
It was a genuine VW cap from Brickwerks. With a pressure test, are you talking about pressurising the coolant system and doing a leakdown test or checking the pressure in each of the cylinders? if it's the first then i think that it could be ok as a couple of times I've let it stop, cool down overni...

Help me diagnose this coolant issue (please!!!)
I've been having an issue with my cooling system for at least 2 years but it's starting to get a bit worse so thought it best to try to put it to bed and would appreciate your help. We have just got back from a run over to France; I'll try to describe what I've been seeing. It's a 1.6 TD JX engine a...

Re: Calais - La Rochelle
Autoroutes via Rouen is a good option. We have been that way the last 4 years and stopped at the Municipal site in Beaumont sur sarthe which is well recommended. It's just North of Le Mans about 4.5 hrs from Calais.

Re: Westy fridge (E'lux RM 184 EGI) not doing much on gas
Blocked gas jet, or blocked flue (rust) or possibly insufficient fresh air coming in (blocked vents?) needs taking out and servicing if it does the same when level. or blocked/restricted filter which sits somewhere in the pipework on the top of the fridge (can't remember exactly where). I had poor ...
