Re: Which diesel fuel pump?
Conversely I could have had a go and created a living nightmare ... Which usually happens when I touch engines!

Re: Which diesel fuel pump?
Found a fuel pump specialist - spoke to them and they think from my 'dripping from the top" description, that the answer is to replace the "throttle.......(something)" on the pump. Dropped it off there and they say they.ve fixed it, so now to collect and have original mechanic put it ...

Which diesel fuel pump?
Hi All Fuel pump started dripping so I thought to save a bit and get a working 2nd hand replacement off eBay, then provide to local dub specialist to fit, and do a new cam belt etc at the same time. I probably should have come on here for advice earlier.... I did have a 1.6d engine before I blew it ...

Waxoyl (or similar) in Bristol
Hey all.
Does anyone know a good place to get the van waxoyld in Bristol or Gloucester?
I don't want to open up a Waxoyl vs 'other' treatment thread, but I'm unknowledgable and would consider other forms of treatment if someone had a garage to recommend.
Cheers
Bob

Re: How long does my clutch have?
Ahhhh! Thanks for wisdom
I will prob go for replacement now rather than later in that case.
Will I need the 215mm or 218mm clutch?

How long does my clutch have?
Hi all Just noticed a bit of clutch slip -- engine seems to race ahead of acceleration, which catches up shortly after. Clutch is relatively high. I assume it is on the way out...but how long do you think I have? My 1983 van had a 1.6D with a 5 speed box, although it now has a 1.9D (from a MIII Golf...

Re: 1.6 to 1.9 conversion - nearly there!!!!!!
Cheers Harryman
I ran this past hime and he said the new pump came as a single module - so couldn't use other bits.
He says he's ground a small area off, which seems to have done the job - without affecting the pump in any way.
Thanks for the input

1.6 to 1.9 conversion - nearly there!!!!!!
Morning all Looking for a bit of urgent advice if possible. My mechanic has been slowly swapping my normally aspirated 1.6d to a a similar 1.9d from a Mark III Golf. Progress has been good up to today: A T25 1.6 sump has been fitted to the 1.9 - so it sits right in the T25, however, the new 1.6 oil ...

Re: 1.6d (CS) to 1.9d (1Y)
Cheers all. I've sourced a 1.9d from a mid-90s Golf with 88k on the clock. The bloke that sold it to me (Volksmania) suggested to go with Golf or Caddy version - rather than the Polo version - due to mounting differences and a different placed dipstick. Camper - Thanks for your comments - I'll be ru...

1.6d (CS) to 1.9d (1Y)
I'd appreciate some guidance/comfort! I've managed to blow my lessthanoneyearold recon engine by gambling on the dilution of a small accidental petrol fill up! I can't afford a recon 1.6d, and research has suggested a 1.9d 1Y engine could prove to be a relatively easy and cheap alternative? I...

OK so radio cuts out when wiper, reverse, headlights, indicator or brakes are selected -- and stays off when headlights are on Headlights are very dim, the wipers are slow, and the fuel guage won't go past 1/2 way. Radio is switchable between van battery and leisure battery -- currently in van mode....

Slow wipers and radio cuts out!
Just had a new engine fitted, so mechanically life has never been better, but there now seems to be a bit of an electronics problem. Whenever I brake, indicate or switch headlights on (ie. ignite a bulb) the radio/CD cuts out for a few seconds as if the system has been overpowered. The windscreen wi...

It's good to be back
Hi guys - I haven't been a prolific poster on here - more of an advice seeker, but I feel the need to post how happy I am at getting my camper back.  :D :D In march I melted the engine 2 miles into a weeklong holiday to Cornwall. 3 months on and now significantly poorer, I have had a reco...

I fear this may be something serious...
Hi all. I should be somewhere by the sea now - for a week of fishing and surfing. Sadly the van only made it 3 miles out of Bristol. Last year in france, I overheated and blew a few pipes. To fix, a frnch mechanic (Renault dealer!!) fixed blown pipes with a bodge job of different diameter pipes and ...
