Re: 1.9TDi AHU in T3 Van with flipped gearbox and Passat Dash
Impressive work. I've done something similar with a 1Z/AFN hybrid. How are you getting on with the gear selection?

Re: Air Cooled Radiator (Air Cooled to Water Cooled)
Hi J,
I've done this conversion, the upper rad mount is spot welded in place so can be removed from a donor vehicle by drilling out the spot welds and either bolting or welding into your van. I would give Metalmickey a pm, I'd be surprised if he can't help.

Re: oil spattering out of dipstick tube
Breather fumes are not the ideal mix of gases for humans to run on so make sure you don't have the fumes entering your bus (less of an issue with a rear engine set up anyway). Apart from that I'm not aware of a downside of venting the fumes to atmosphere although you may need some form of oil catch ...

Re: VNT turbo indexing
Thanks for reply randolph, this is exactly the info I was looking for. Do you have any photos? Mazz has helpfully told me about a Sharan AFN turbo that would bolt straight onto my set up with the drain in the right place, but I've already shelled out a good lump of cash on a re-con passat one it wou...

Re: VNT turbo indexing
Does your oil return go to sump? Mine was going to crankcase which I believe is wrong. I'm rebuiling my engine now and its going to go to sump. If I can't get a jx sump I'm making an adapter to go on the front of my sump. Cheers Yes, I'm using a JX sump, it's the angle the turbo is mounted at that ...

Re: VNT turbo indexing
I know it's not going to be easy to re-index the turbo I've got with the manifold I'm using which is why I'm on here asking for advice. Spinning the cartridge is easy enough but re-attaching the actuator in a position where it works correctly and clears the exhaust manifold and engine block looks tr...

VNT turbo indexing
I know there are quite a few 80-90 members running AFN engines at 50 degrees and would like to hear everyone's opinions and experience with the angle of the oil drain from the turbo. I fitted a recon VNT turbo from a passat using a JX manifold and Tim's adaptors. The oil drain was roughly 90 degrees...

Re: replacing a 5 speed gearbox with a four
Check every bush and joint between the gear stick and gearbox. It's such a long linkage that it only needs a small amount of play to lose the accuracy at the gear stick. If you have to push against a spring to get into reverse gear then you still have the 5 spd gear stick. If you have to push the st...

Re: Vibration under hard acceleration
Also check driveshaft clearance. I had a similar problem on the first test drive due to one of the driveshafts touching the engine mounting cradle under hard acceleration. The clearance issue was due to dropping the cradle 40mm and was easily sorted.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Re: Anyone had a new pop top fitted?
Thanks for reply Keith2, but I'm looking to replace my viking roof with a westy type pop top. I've found a couple of companies who supply and fit new westy style roofs and wondered if anyone on here has had one fitted.

Anyone had a new pop top fitted?
Hi all, I am in the market for a new pop-top for my recently restored van and would like to hear from anyone who's had one fitted in the UK.
All opinions and experiences are welcomed.
It's a big chunk of money so would appreciate any guidance.
Thanks in advance.

Re: intake air temp sender - TDI
For anyone who's interested.... Darkside developments do a 51mm beaded pipe with map sensor boss for £40 plus vat. It comes drilled for a 12mm map sensor. My AFN one is 18mm, they said they would drill it out to size so I ordered one today.

Re: Getting There! 2 The AFN strikes back..
I would have done the same...all the time money and effort you're putting in, it makes no sense to skimp in this area. I hope Mrs. Lloydy has given you her approval....new pistons and a re-bore equates to a foreign city-break with two new outfits and shoes and handbags to match. I hope you haven't b...
