Re: T.E.S. too busy to recon engine

Hellooo, the results are in!! Compression test shows this...no1=130, no2=125, no3=130, no4=60. Hubby talked with the owner of the garage and talked about dropping the engine to fix valve on no4, and changing the engine mounts as this may also be the cause of the juddering at over 50mph, but both sai...

oil cooler seal Q: work being done now

Thanks Emma for the quick reply and info, camperteqchnique agreed it could be done that way, though said it would be a day job in itself and not one to be done on the roadside! So reccommended that we steam clean the engine now that all the other seals have been done and see if there's still another...

Good Garage

Well whatever you do don't go to Beetle repairs under the Itchen bridge Soton. I only asked them to check out an oil leak to see if they would give the same answer as another garage....and they charged me an hours labour, plus a tenner to put some oil in "as it was low"...If he had looked ...

Hi all, Just to let everyone know I've taken the van to Beetle repairs under the Itchen Bridge, Soton, to get another quote on the leak. He reckons its the push rods and the oil cooler..for which you have to drop the engine. He quoted £600 plus parts, and did say that it may not cure the problem, al...

A-ha! Thanks Bowton, will try VW Herritage. The recon engine seems like a good idea, though seems drastic for a few seals, though the price issue makes sense. How come it costs less to get a recon engine, than re-con your own!!
