No doubting you know what you're on about :-) I just wanted to clarify for us pedants out there....

Re: New injectors

cheers Mazz - between 4 and 5 sounds right - just don't want to go much below that or it'll start to smoke - above that and throttle response will be a bit rubbish and might cause more lag. You're quite right too - everything has to be to temperature....

Re: New injectors

Hello, sorry but saying you should keep it under 5 isn't correct - as what you are seeing is the reported value - if you put it down to 2 it will most likely smoke and get higher EGTs as the Quantity Adjuster thinks it needs to bung loads more fuel in. If you put it up to 8 it will put less fuel in ...

Re: Getting There! 2 The AFN strikes back..

Hi Lloyd, this looks great. One thing I wonder about the JX oil pump is whether the teeth are the same as the AFN pump - I used the JX one on mine and had some high (reported) oil pressures, but it was a cheap electrical gauge. I reckon this is a question for syncroandy and max and caddy, but I wond...

Re: AFN quirk , no power until reved , ECU / cruise control ?

Hello, just to add my speculative 2-pennyworth - on that ECU the brake and clutch switches should both be earthed when the pedals are not pressed - so to be absolutely sure I'd make sure the brake switch wire and the clutch switch wire (white/yellow and white/red from memory) are actually earthed. S...

Re: AFN tdi install what other parts do I require?

The pd inlet manifold fits an afn head - a lot of pd turbos have integrated manifolds which will sit too low on a 50 degree installation. If your afn has been chipped you'll have to make sure you use the turbo it was mapped for - I used the gt1749va from a pd130 on an afn manifold. As I said though ...

Re: AFN tdi install what other parts do I require?

I'm really sorry - I'd totally forgotten about that. Yeah - I made up the snorkel with a 90 degree bend and it worked well but I never tested it properly. I had a fabricated mount - if you want to get one made up I'd speak to Phil Miller on here - he made a cracking one for his 1z - you'd need a bit...

Re: AFN tdi install what other parts do I require?

Hello, I had a PD130 on mine - introduced a not very happy 180 degree bend. I'd have liked to have rewelded the input so there was a direct line to the intercooler top hose but that was beyond my abilities for sure - allard do an EGR delete flange for it which I used: http://www.macs.hw.ac.uk/~eahm2...

Re: Resident TDi expert?? I have a question..

thanks a lot for that explanation - much more complicated than I knew then on the newer models - apologies for erroneous comment - useful to have an expert on all of the various incarnations on here! I'll keep my mouth shut unless I'm sure it's the non pd engines we're talking about...

Re: diesel water pump from a t25 on a t3 passat

quick bit of vagcat reading gives part numbers for the two:

T3 (or T25):
037121010C (whole water pump)
026121005JX (impeller and housing)

Passat
037121010BX (whole water pump)
037121005C (impeller and housing)

googling seems to suggest the impeller orientations are the same

Re: diesel water pump from a t25 on a t3 passat

Hello, exactly WHS^^^^ - I think going for a water pump flow rate diagnosis is seriously premature, not to say almost certainly not the problem. If you want to check out part numbers and compatibility you can go on vagcat, and then you're talking about vw part numbers not jk ones, which are pretty m...

Re: Resident TDi expert?? I have a question..

Yeah - brake cleaner recommended or Mr Muscle as Lloyd says - can't think of much he hasn't done so that's a good tip ;-) Sorry to be a pedant but a tdi technically doesn't have a throttle. That's why diesels need vacuum pumps. If you're referring to the anti-shudder valve then it functions as a bin...

Re: Resident TDi expert?? I have a question..

sorry - website went down - hopefully that pic will be available again soon, so you can see what the EGR looks like on a PD170. Would certainly be helpful to know the code!

Re: Resident TDi expert?? I have a question..

by the way - here is a pic of what you're looking for I think:

Image

The silver tube on the right comes through a cooler from the exhaust manifold - the part on the left the other side of the induction tract is the actuator for the EGR.
