Re: Propex 1600 on 1991 T25..Help please

I posted our compact 1600 off to propex to be fixed/ safety checked, they were happy to do this despite it being a really old model

Re: Potential options for modern vw petrol engines

I was thinking of something more recent - say the last five years, or are they just too technical/electrical to work in these old busses? That's what my original post was about really, nearly all of the T25 engine swaps i've seen use engines from two or more decades ago, I was curious if anyone had...

Re: Which engine is best for a T25?

Anybody who's fuel costs are that important should think twice about a T25 becasuse you won't afford the maintenance. I agree with this - the reason I moved both of my T25's on in the end was down to the expense of keeping them MOTed and on the road, fuel economy didn't come into it, despite me cho...

Re: Which engine is best for a T25?

If I bought another T25 it would be petrol - the 2.0 gti conversion sounds good. Oh, I should justify this hypothetical decision - I ended up with a tdi conversion, which was always a bit of an ongoing project - the gearbox wasn't suitable, it was really loud (custom exhaust and unenclosed cone air...

Re: Which engine is best for a T25?

I've had both (kind of, my second one was 1.6 non-turbo originally, stupidly slow) - I bought the diesel in the mistaken belief that it would be economical and long lasting, then two engine changes later (1.9 na, then 1.9 tdi), I dread to think what my real cost per mile was! My 1.9 petrol drove rea...

Re: New T25, has a TDI Passat engine

It does look like a mechanical fuel pump - if you get someone to sit in the cab and pump the throttle can you see a lever moving back and forth on top of the fuel pump? Most TDI's have an electronic fuel pump and are "fly by wire" so you wouldn't see anything moving on the fuel pump itself...

Re: Subaru 2.2 16valve vs Audi 1.9TDi engine

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet but how many miles do you do a year? the diesel would be my option from an "MPG" point of view as a petrol will be a bit thirstier, probably be lucky to manage 30mpg from the scooby if you baby it along and probably nearer the 40 out of the diesel...

Re: Subaru 2.2 16valve vs Audi 1.9TDi engine

Sorry to be OCD, but I can't see it written without commenting on it:- TD I = Turbo Direct Injection - a technology used in later VW/AUDI engines from the early/mid 90's onwards TD = Turbo Diesel - an older indirect injection diesel engine with a turbo on it The JX and AAZ are TD not TDI, I doubt an...

Not sure whether I ever posted the results of mine here:- http://campervanthings.com/images/2016-06-16-where-is-rocky/rocky-rustoleum-paintjob_700.jpg Still love the way that 2 years ago after a bit of MOT welding I touched it up in 20 minutes, no masking and 2 hours before a camping trip :) Unfortu...

Just for the record, this was being caused by a broken ignition steering lock, presumably from a theft attempt

Cheers Silverbulet, no power steering on mine (yet).

Either way, I won't be driving this far until I get it sorted :)
