I'd love to buy some new carbs for the van and ditch this one however not sure my wallet can manage that for a while so I need to get this one running properly if I can.

I want to check the timing on my 2.0ltr CU and looking in the Haynes manual it shows a graduated dial around the fan belt housing and marks on the fan. Vapour lock in the fuel lines? Only happens when hot, starts fine and runs for 30 seconds, then dies and won't restart until cold, single, non-standard carb fitted. Try wrapping the fuel pump and lines in a damp cloth for a few minutes next time it won't start. Also, see here (though take note that...
