It's part of my nature. .. always fearing the worse
Looks like the regulator is knackered. Brushes are well worn. Local garage has ordered a new one and should arrive later today.
Thanks again for your advice.

Re: Rev counter dead plus battery light on
Thanks for the replies everyone & thanks to Covkid for the clarification.... Managed to get hold of a very basic battery tester today. It shows the battery is excellent (presumably cause I've been on hook up for 24 hours).. but the alternator gauge does not move at all, when engine running, so l...

Re: Rev counter dead plus battery light on
Will get into engine bay today to check fan belt, but i was thinking that the problem may be at the instrument cluster end, as rev counter died at same time as charging light came on. (glow plug light now working). There is a garage near the site. I guess I could go there Monday and ask if they'll c...

Rev counter dead plus battery light on
1990 1.6TD JX engine Hi guys. sitting in a site in Italy and looking for help. Today during a 200km drive my Rev counter stopped working and my battery charge light came on (and stays on). I also think my glow plug light has died (but will check again later when engine has cooled). The van is starti...

Re: westfalia poptop storage?
I also have the later version Westy. Living in your van long term, certainly makes you look at how every conceivable part of it can be put to best use. One of the mods/upgrades I'm considering doing when I get back home is the Gunzl Luggage Pan together with a GoWesty luggage bag, unless someone can...

Re: Maybe caving in and buying a Waeco CR 50
Thanks to Jed et al for your postings which pointed me to a Waeco CR50. I bow to you guys on your knowledge of electrical items and fitting but was wondering if I could share the inspiration I had when making the lower drawer and surround (forgive me if anyone else thought of it before me). In order...

Thought I would take this chance to share some pics of my small collection of vans stretching over the last 10 years, from one of my first road trips to getting ready for my biggest excursion yet. 1990 AutoSleeper 1.9 petrol. Re: Memory foam mattress
We bought one from Dunelm back in the summer, so was able to air it outside before using. it does add slightly to our comfort levels, but the most notable thing is, it seems to retain our body heat thus making our wee van more cosy of an evening. one drawback is, it tends to slide down the vans matt...

Re: To tint or not to tint.
Is it possible to do in camper vans such as Westies or Autosleepers? Do the wardrobes have to come out for access? There is about a 2 inch gap between wardrobe and glass. Cheers You can tint with the glass in situ. Just a damn sight easier if it's out. I don't fancy taking mine out at the mo'. thin...

what is LDA unit? (1.6TD)
On a recent camping trip, I was inspecting my engine one morning (as you do), and I noticed a hose sitting loose on top of the engine. I quickly fiund that it had come off the canister sitting behind the injection pump. I have since found out that this is called an LDA unit and it has something to d...
