Re: Anyone with electrical knowledge near Dover?

On Bigherb's advice I started swapping the battery over for the van. The previous owner threw included a generic 75ah lead acid battery. Although it's always seemed to hold it's charge, I've never had it connected to anything other than a multimeter, I decided to see how dry the cells were. I couldn...

Re: Anyone with electrical knowledge near Dover?

Big thanks to Bigherb for going out of his way to come over and see me. He's given me a bit of a guided tour of my van and set me straight on a number of things. I now have the confidence to get hold of all the bits I need to wire up a leisure battery on a split charger and re=route the electrics to...

Re: Anyone with electrical knowledge near Dover?

Bigherb gave me a call last night just waiting to see if he's going to be nearby today.

Re: Anyone with electrical knowledge near Dover?

No signs of anything (relays, cables etc) in the passenger side battery bay. I guess there never was a leisure battery. I've PM'd you my mobile number if you're around tomorrow!

Re: Anyone with electrical knowledge near Dover?

Thank you for the lengthy reply. I think you're right about the relay being for the fridge. That does seem to fit it with the diagrams you pointed me towards. With that red wire currently flapping in the wind, I guess the fridge would not be working on 12v regardless of whether the engine was runnin...

Re: Anyone with electrical knowledge near Dover?

Finally got the chance to look into this a bit more. I've been trying to figure out how best to get what I want and keep hearing about zig units and split charge relays without properly understanding what they do. So if I've got this right... fitting a split charge relay means your 12v supplies are ...

A couple of pictures certainly wouldn't hurt

Anyone with electrical knowledge near Dover?

I was wondering if anyone near the Dover area might be able to help me fathom a few things out on my Autohomes Kamper converted early-1985 watercooled 1.9 DG Petrol camper? I can offer my eternal gratitude, loads of tea, some beer or some cash (or a mixture of all 4!)? Things I'm not sure about: I'm...

Re: Noisy noisy noisy

I ended up jump starting it off my car. Took it for a spin with a spare battery, the jump leads AND the emergency jump starter pack but it started up first time on its own. Drive back and check the voltage. 11.5v. Left it on the solar panel and today it's 11.6v. The indicator is still black but I th...

Re: Noisy noisy noisy

You need a new battery... sorry. 9.3 or 8.3 volts is battery death...any starter battery that goes below 11V will never recover back 100% if at all code 100 (biggest) or 067 will fit in he battery box an expensive mistake..take it on the chin and move on :D I'd heard this too. 10.5v in the guide I ...

Re: Noisy noisy noisy

I have to begin with a bit of a confession... I left work on monday and made my way to Halfords to pick up a tub of exhaust putty. I pulled in to the car park and then realised I'd left my wallet at work. D'oh! So tuesday I left work, this time with my wallet. Made my way to halfords and picked up t...

Re: Noisy noisy noisy

I replaced the brake light switch and all was good again. I looked around as much of the exhaust as possible and found a small, little fingernail sized hole. Is this likely to be the cause of it being crazy loud or is there probably a much bigger hole somewhere else that I can't see? All the bolts e...

Re: Noisy noisy noisy

Thanks for the replies. I won't have a chance to check this till the weekend. I went to take a look last night after checking the brake lights and taking the van home but it was too hot and I didn't want to go near it. The brake light thing seems to be the brake light switch so I've ordered a couple...

Re: Noisy noisy noisy

I've just had to google "open headers". I'll take a good look around the exhaust this evening as everything points to there being something amiss with it. The guy I bought it off said he'd put a slightly longer pipe on the very end of the exhaust and said something about fumes coming up in...

Noisy noisy noisy

Hi everyone, So I've had my Early model 1985 watercooled 1.9 DG petrol T25 since may and it's always been noisy. I never thought much of it since I figured all old vehicles are this noisy right? I've had a quick look under the van and can't see anything wrong with the exhaust as such but then this i...
