Re: 5 Speed to 4 Speed Swap, Parts Advice Needed.

No, didn't try the 5 speed set up, but it was next to useless with the 5 speed, so i can't imagine it being much better with a box it wasn't meant for!

5 Speed to 4 Speed Swap, Parts Advice Needed.

Hi all, I'm in the process of fitting a 4 speed 091/1 'box in my watercooled petrol 86 van, which previously had a 5 speed in it, I ended up getting the wrong front half of the linkage to use, which is 18mm diameter, not 20mm like the old one, and it has a 'bendy section' with 2 ball and sockets, is...

Re: 2.1 DJ green plastic vacuum resevoir........

Hi there. Does your vehicle have a catalytic converter just before the main silencer box on the exhaust system. If not, no worries, as I believe the green plastic "ball ""cock""" thingy is part of the system where converters are fitted. However, my westy has a 2.1 engi...

2.1 DJ green plastic vacuum resevoir........

I recently bought a few spares for my 2.1, mainly to get a better air filter box than mine, which had no clips, had to be cable tied together, and a spare airflow meter. attached to the airbox i bought, is a green plastic vacuum resevoir, (looks like a toilet cistern ball-cock!) or at least that's w...

Rad. Fan Switch, lower temp version?

Howdoo all, I've noticed that a lower temp version of the fan switch is available, like this.... http://www.busdepot.com/radiator-cooling-system/25195948175" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; but can't seem to find anywhere in the UK that sells them, anyone used one, or know wh...

Re: Leaking brake fluid..... err..... I think.....

If it is a leaking clutch master cyl and not just the supply pipe from res to cyl,( which is only a push on fit and may be the leak,) eventually the clutch will tend to back off even tho the pedal is down! (i know this from experience!) the van will want to creep forward, and dangerously, you cant g...

Re: Exhaust valve noise...

Worse than i thought..... engine is out and heads off, the exh. valve guide of the noisy valve is unbelievably worn, almost thru to the alum. of the head in one spot and the seat is well battered, to the extent that some of the actual head material around the seat has been worn away, that valve head...

Exhaust valve noise...

Recently, a loud ticking noise from cylinder no. 1 has been geting worse (2.1 DJ engine) i wrongly thought that it was due to a sticking hydraulic lifter, so tried some flushing oil at fast idle for 15 mins, as stated on the can, changed oil and filter in an attempt to see if that would cure the lif...

Re: 2.1DJ starting/running problems

an easy way to identify a duff injector is to remove the electrical connector block from each inj in turn, with the engine running..... if you pull off the connector and the engine runs worse, then there's a fair chance that one's ok. if you pull off the connector and it makes no difference to the e...

Re: 2.1DJ starting/running problems

if the airflow meter lid has been removed and stuck back on, its possible that someone has altered either the air flap spring pressure (notched plastic ring) or possibly moved the resistor wiper position from std, which alters the fuel/air mixture, or both! both can potentially screw up the running ...

Re: New Wintery tyres

worth mentioning that in the short term, adding weight above the rear wheels makes a difference in the snow in a van with near 50/50 weight distribution like the T25, around 100kg of weight over the back end in mine made a real difference in getting around after the recent snowfall, more would proba...

Draining the cooling system.......

What's the best way of getting as much of my old coolant out of the system as poss, for a refill with a fresh 50/50 mix? (2.1 petrol eng.) will undoing both rad hoses at the join with the long plastic pipes near the spare wheel carrier, and removing exp tank cap and rad bleed bolt get most of it out...

Re: wbx stainless exhausts

Worth noting that the VW Speedshop/LA Performance st/steel exhausts (both exactly the same item) are not 100 % stainless steel. some of the flanges are mild steel and will rust. why they make them like that, is anyones guess, seems stupid to me. the fit was very good on mine, no bending or forcing i...

Converting from power steering to non ps

I know the arm and universal joint are different between a power, and non power steering van, (apart from the rack, obviously) but apart from this does anyone know if its straightforward enough to convert a van which previously had ps, to non ps? real bad leaks on ps rack, arm and a leg to repair, v...
