Re: Power steering fluid... does it ever need changing??

cheers for that, martin, just done a bit of googling on the subject, and one site suggests simply keep removing the fluid in the rsevoir and replacing it with new regularly over a few weeks, until the stuff remains red and the dirty stuff is gone, flushed thru the system, which seems a simple soluti...

Power steering fluid... does it ever need changing??

my van is 'blessed' with power steering...recently realised that the power steering fluid was very low in my van, as the resevoir looked to be at the right level, but this was just a dirt 'tide line' on the inside of the resevoir/top up pot, it looked fairly full but wasn't. filled it to between min...

Re: What symptoms would a faulty temp sender have?

Many thanks for that info, Simon, I have looked at the innards of an airflow meter before, but i'm reluctant to fiddle with this one, as it's a re-calibrated, recon one from ATP electronic developments in staffs, and i'd void the warranty by taking the top off! they fit a new air temp sensor in them...

What symptoms would a faulty temp sender have?

My 2.1 DJ digijet van has an occasional stalling prob at low revs, junctions and parking etc, usually before it has got up to temp, but sometimes when warm as well, wondered if the temp sender in the 'stat housing could be to blame, the engine seems to run a bit rich and smells a bit like there's un...

2.0 A/C Replacement elec. fuel pump question....

2.0 CU Aircooled engine... the std fuel pump has been replaced, new one sited in engine bay, positive wire connected to coil, is this a bad idea, as the pump seemed to work better when connected direct to battery with a jump lead, seemed like it wasnt operating well when connected to the coil postiv...

Re: Alternative Oil filter/VW Speedshop exhaust question....

Many thanks for the quick replies, folks! appreciated :D Toomanytoys, i agree it is a daft design/oversight if it fits the 1.9 without the oil cooler, (which i can only assume the prototype was modelled on) but not the 2.1 with the added few inches of the cooler, wouldn't have needed much more tubin...

Alternative Oil filter/VW Speedshop exhaust question....

Recently bought but haven't yet fitted, a VW Speedshop stainless exhaust. as some will know, due to one of the pipes being closer to the engine than a std exh, the standard long oil filter would not fit, and a much smaller filter, as fitted to some polo's, and Seat cars needs to be used (apparently ...

Re: LHD to RHD

As one of many LHD owners, i would have to say.... why bother? you soon get used to driving sat on the wrong side! it's only ever a problem if you get stuck behind a slow vehicle on a narrow road and can't see round it to pass it, (helps if you have a passenger to tell you when it's clear :D ) but t...

Re: speedo not working

can some times pop out the back of the speedo! Mine is a buggr for doing this! every couple of weeks it will need the top lifting off the pod, and the cable pushing back on, think the retaining catch on the plastic end is rounded off and not quite catching properly, might be worth just pulling the ...

Re: are these cams knackered

any pitting or uneven wear on the lobes or journals is not too great long term, wear will accelarate once the case hardness starts to go, if you're rebuilding it with a view to keeping the van, best bet would be new cam and lifters, make sure you get one with the same/matching ' + - or 0' markings o...

Re: To seal or not to seal

A genuine manual on disc i have shows sealant used on the rubbers, i just got a set of the JK rubbers and need to get all the glass taken out so i can repair the odd rusty hole, i'll ask the advice of the local mobile screen fitter guy who'll be taking them out/refitting them, but i'd feel better if...

Re: Best Tyres

A 205 width on a Carat rim fits in my spare wheel carrier under the front end just fine. i too had trouble finding 'good brand' 205/70/14 C rated tyres for mine, so i fitted 195/75/14C Continental Vanco's to my carat rims, which are within 1.5% if you check it out on a tyre calculator website, great...

Aircooled tinware screws.. what thread?

Wondered if anyone knows what thread size the short crosshead screws are, that are used to hold the tin-ware together on a 2.o a/c engine?? they look about M8 thread, with a notch in the end, thanks for any help.
