Washer wiper issue

Hi Thought I would post a solution I have just solved rather than an issue! My screen wash has never worked that well in 8 years ownership. Somehow it always passes the MOT even though the spray has reduced to a dribble. I alway carry a manual window cleaning solution.  A few years ago I thought it ...

Re: Wiring up new compressor fridge

It’s not really a safety issue . It is no safer not to , but it’s the done thing It also makes connecting the existing van interior lights to the leisure battery much easier and the pin switches still work I still don’t under stand not having a split charge . Understood, basically the long negative...

Re: Wiring up new compressor fridge

Yes you need to connect the leisure battery to chassis neg . Always best practice to use the vehicle chassis as neg , much less voltage loss , the chassis can take huge amperage and avoids long neg wires . Not sure why you wouldn’t have a split charger , for the sake of three more wires and a £10 a...

Re: Wiring up new compressor fridge

Hi, I am doing the same thing, installing a new 12V fridge at the moment. It will be hooked directly up to a new leisure battery with a short cable run. I am also connecting the 12v lighting circuit and water pump to the same system. I have a 240v charger to keep the battery topped up when on hook-u...

Re: Sliding door issues

It seems to be catching okay. It gets 'stuck' about an inch before closing.

I have some recollection of this happening before, so need to investigate again. I will update if I solve it.

Thanks

Sliding door issues

Hi We have what I believe is an early sliding door. (1982 air cooled) The sliding door struggles to open and I have to manually pull it at the rear to get it free. So it pops open enough to get my fingers in, but no further. Now when closing it sometimes seems to hit a dead stop and does not close. ...

Re: RPM in Road Speed

Hi

Could you use your phone and some GPS tracker to display your speed accurately? I use HERE Maps which is free and you can download maps (so saves data usage). Displays your current speed at all times.

Re: Engine Mounts (and other problems)

Just to update this.... and show my complete inexperience with these things :) The engine mounts were reaplced. The running issue got worse and worse to the point it felt like it was only firing on two cylinders most the time. There was masses of fuel being ejected out the exhaust and frequent stall...

Engine Mounts (and other problems)

Evening all, Just doing a bit of pre-investigative work. Having been into France for two weeks this summer and running lovely during the entire trip, my van has started playing up. I suspect the issues are linked. When I brake, it sounds like one (or more) engine mounts have gone. I get a large 'clo...

Re: Vehicle height

Ours is 2600 roughly. We manage to book on ferries with a height restriction of 2700mm (Isle of Wight). I was shocked this week when I went to cross the toll bridge at Itchen, Southampton. Because the height was above 2390mm they were going to class me as a HGV and charge £25.00. Luckily a kind atte...

Re: Vinyl or Fabric Seat Covers?

We have vinyl seats throughout the van. I drive in shorts and never had an issue (but I used to in my Dads 1976 Allegro!!). The front seats were completed a few years ago. The rear seats (for the kids) were done this year (also in vinyl). So far, not really been tested on hot days, but we are going ...

Re: Engine shutting down

I am no expert and I have a 2.0CU engine. My van would drive normally then cut out after 15 minutes driving or so. It steadily got worse to the point it would cut out after a mile. After cooling down again it would start again. When it cut out, there was no stuttering (stuttering being an indication...

Re: replacement internal striplights

Hi Good work! :) When I first got my van I found it difficult to find someone I could rely on. Tried various places (who I won't name and shame) who were poor to indifferent. One recommended a new engine when I was having running issues, which I later diagnosed as a loose vacuum hose and a new jubil...

Re: Seats - Replace or re-cover?

WP_20150531_18_58_31_Pro[1964].jpg We bought covers which I fitted myself over the originals from a company in NI. (Fitting was easy) We could have chosen any colours and these fitted directly over the originals. Also included was covers for the headrests to match. Total cost was about £140 (from m...
