Budget camping in the Ardennes: Any tips?
Hi guys. We've got a 2-week return ticket booked on the ferry to France and Charlotte & I were going to head for the Ardennes. Plan will be: Get to the Ardennes. Go canoeing 1 day. Try & find some nice lakes for the kids to play near. Go to Aqualibi 1 day. Wander the forests/fields. Use Aire...

Re: Which exhaust is this for?...
I reckon you're right about the generic bit. The original listing is here. Business Seller. Why Pa-in-Law didn't just send it back within a month is beyond me: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150480088931&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT If the extra bit is to be used as a built...

Re: Which exhaust is this for?...
I'd have said it was for a diesel myself, but there are no brackets to fit it on with - it's just a tube. All diagrams I've seen have brackets welded to the silencer for a diesel. I've looked through the vwheritage website & just cannot find an exact match. Closest is among the diesel family. Ah...

Which exhaust is this for?...
Hi guys, Bit confused with this. My Pa-in-Law bought this exhaust silencer from eBay a few months back. The ad said it was for all models of T25 engine (bit odd, as it said it was compatible with diesel engines too...) DSC01479a.jpg Anyway, Pa-in-Law says it does not fit his Van & gave it to me ...

Re: Advice please: Dead 2.1 - replace or alternative engine?
Right, thanks for that. Mick has been seriously considering just whacking the old heads back on with new gaskets & trying to get a few more miles out before the engine is finally officially dead. @toomanytoys: I agree. I reckon he's caused more damage than he's letting on. Last thing I want is f...

Re: Advice please: Dead 2.1 - replace or alternative engine?
I was wrong, he does have the DJ engine. My apologies. He says there's a hairline crack on the inside of one of the heads. Apparently between the bits the pushrods go into? And the mechanic who took the head off took the wrong one off - the other head is the one that is also leaking like crazy, so p...

Re: Advice please: Dead 2.1 - replace or alternative engine?
looking at your sig you must be my most local club member :D Fair point! There are a few Vans round here. 3 in my village (Temple Ewell) all in various states of disrepair! :) Regard the engine code: I'll be honest Pa-in-Law always told me his is the expensive 2.1... The one that goes like the clap...

Re: Advice please: Dead 2.1 - replace or alternative engine?
There are a number of issues with it, I believe. Mick's coming back for the weekend by train, so I'll have more detail there. Head failure was one of the problems. Lots of overheating & driving has made that one more serious. He made it from Dartford to Southend (his place of work) by filling up...

Advice please: Dead 2.1 - replace or alternative engine?
Hi guys, thought this might be the correct place to ask this question. Pa-In-Law's 2.1 injected Caravelle has finally had it. I believe it was the 2.1 digifant engine. It was also converted on the continent to run on LPG. It's now dead, aparrently. Lots of problems. Mechanic told him he might as wel...

Re: Good Mechanic needed South East Kent
Not sure if it's near you, but I always prefer to go to Empire Motors in Whitfield, near Dover.
They've always been straight with me & have handled any of my can't-fix-it-myself problems in a professional manner.
Thought I'd mention them.

Re: 1.6TD Fuel consumption increasing
Thanks for the advice. The old girl's due an oil change, so I'll swap out the current stuff for 15w/40. Might also double-check in the current air filter in case it's suddenly clogged, though performance & acceleration-wise there's no difference to the usual. I've started keeping notes on km cov...

1.6TD Fuel consumption increasing
Thought I'd give this a shot as it's starting to bother me. Van: 1985 1.6JX TD Carthago Camper conversion (pop-top) Manual 4-speed. The fuel consumption in the van seems to have increased recently. I used to put £30 in the tank every 2 weeks (about a year ago). Nowadays I seem to be putting in £30 a...

Re: reimo canvas
I think I need to do the same with my Carthago roof in the next few years.
Same shape as Westy, but unsure if the canvasses will fit.
If I were you I'd give the suppliers a call & ask for dimensions. I'm guessing they would fit yours as well & if not perhaps make one to fit? You never know.
